Anshul Sharma1,*, Pardeep Kumar1, Hemant Kumar Vinayak2, Suresh Kumar Walia3

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.15, No.2, pp. 139-165, 2021, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2021.012316

Abstract This study is concerned with the diagnosis of discrepancies in a steel truss bridge by identifying dynamic properties from the vibration response signals of the bridges. The vibration response signals collected at bridges under three different vehicular speeds of 10 km/hr, 20 km/hr, and 30 km/hr are analyzed using statistical features such as kurtosis, magnitude of peak-to-peak, root mean square, crest factor as well as impulse factor in time domain, and Stockwell transform in the time-frequency domain. The considered statistical features except for kurtosis show uncertain behavior. The Stockwell transform showed low-resolution outcomes when the presence of noise in the… More >

Fatigue Crack Propagation Analysis of Orthotropic Steel Bridge with Crack Tip Elastoplastic Consideration

    Ying Wang1,*, Zheng Yan1, Zhen Wang2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.127, No.2, pp. 549-574, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2021.014727

Abstract Due to the complex structure and dense weld of the orthotropic steel bridge deck (OSBD), fatigue cracks are prone to occur in the typical welding details. Welding residual stress (WRS) will cause a plastic zone at the crack tip. In this paper, an elastoplastic constitutive model based on the Chaboche kinematic hardening model was introduced, and the extended finite element method (XFEM) was used to study the influence of material elastoplasticity and crack tip plastic zone on the law of fatigue crack propagation. By judging the stress state of the residual stress field at the crack tip and selecting different… More >

Fatigue Performance Evaluation for Welded Details in Orthotropic Steel Deck Bridges Using Multi-Scale Finite Element Method

    Rongfeng Chen1, Changqing Miao2,*

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.14, No.3, pp. 205-228, 2020, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2020.08997

Abstract In order to study the fatigue properties of rib-to-deck welded connection and rib-to-rib welded connection in orthotropic steel bridge decks, a multi-scale finite element model was set up to analyze the stress distribution characteristics and the load test was conducted on the Taizhou Yangtze River Bridge. Comparing the vehicle test results with the multi-scale finite element model results to verify the accuracy of the finite element simulation for the stress response of two welded details. The results indicated that: The stress at the rib-to-deck welded connection and the rib-to-rib welded connection are the bending stress and the membrane stress, respectively;… More >

Crack Propagation-Based Fatigue Evaluation of Rib-to-Deck Welded Joints of Orthotropic Steel Bridge Deck by Using Schwartz-Neuman Alternating Method

    Yabin Yang, Guangyu Shi*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.21, No.2, pp. 35-35, 2019, DOI:10.32604/icces.2019.05623

Abstract The efficient and high performance orthotropic steel decks have been widely used in long span bridges over the world. The initial defects at welded joints of orthotropic steel bridge decks will undergo fatigue failure under the action of live load of moving vehicles on the bridge decks. And the fatigue cracks at the rib-to-deck welded joints are the most dangerous cracks for the orthotropic steel bridge decks. Therefore, the fatigue life evaluation of the rib-to-deck welded joints is very important for the safety of orthotropic steel bridge decks. This paper presents a crack propagation-based model for the fatigue life prediction… More >

    Meiling Zhuang1,2, Changqing Miao1,2,*, Rongfeng Chen1,2

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.13, No.2, pp. 205-225, 2019, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2019.04654

Abstract To study the fatigue performance of welded details in the orthotropic steel decks, the steel box girder for Taizhou Yangtze River Bridge is taken as the research object. Based on the field monitoring data obtained from the load test, the stress response test of the orthotropic steel box girder under wheel loads is performed and the correctness of the vehicle test data obtained from the field monitoring data also have been verified by the numerical results of the finite element model. Based on the Miner linear cumulative damage theory, the S-N curve of the Eurocode3 specification is referenced, and the… More >
