Abstract This article introduces a novel, ultrawideband (UWB) planar monopole antenna printed on Roger RT/5880 substrate in a compact size for small Internet of Things (IoT) applications. The total electrical dimensions of the proposed compact UWB antenna are 0.19 λo × 0.215 λo × 0.0196 λo with the overall physical sizes of 15 mm × 17 mm × 1.548 mm at the lower resonance frequency of 3.8 GHz. The planar monopole antenna is fed through the linearly tapered microstrip line on a partially structured ground plane to achieve optimum impedance matching for UWB operation. The proposed compact UWB antenna has an… More >

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.42, No.3, pp. 1079-1093, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.022313

Abstract This research presents an ultra-wideband (UWB) textile antenna design for body-centric applications. The antenna is printed on a 1 mm thick denim substrate with a 1.7 relative permittivity. The jeans substrate is sandwiched between a partial ground plane and a radiating patch with a Q-shaped slot. The slotted radiating patch is placed above the substrate and measures 27.8 mm × 23.8 mm. In free space, the antenna covers the ultra-wideband spectrum designated by the Federal Communication Commission (FCC). Various parameters of the antenna design were changed for further performance evaluation. Depending on the operating frequency, the antenna's realized gain varied from 2.7 to 5 dB. The… More >

    Yanli Gao1, Wanfeng Ma2, Jing Cao2, Jianling Qu1 and Yuan Xu2,3,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.130, No.2, pp. 1221-1237, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.017533

Abstract For improving the localization accuracy, a multi-interval extended finite impulse response (EFIR)-based RauchTung-Striebel (R-T-S) smoother is proposed for the range-only ultra wide band (UWB) simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) for robot localization. In this mode, the EFIR R-T-S (ERTS) smoother employs EFIR filter as the forward filter and the R-T-S smoothing method to smooth the EFIR filter’s output. When the east or the north position is considered as stance, the ERTS is used to smooth the position directly. Moreover, the estimation of the UWB Reference Nodes’ (RNs’) position is smoothed by the R-T-S smooth method in parallel. The test illustrates… More >

    Iqra Aitbar1, Nosherwan Shoaib1,*, Akram Alomainy2, Abdul Quddious3, Symeon Nikolaou4, Muhammad Ali Imran5, Qammer H. Abbasi5

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.2, pp. 3227-3241, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.023008

Abstract In this paper, a compact, efficient and easy to fabricate wearable antenna integrated with Artificial Magnetic Conductor (AMC) is presented. Addition of slots and bevels/cuts in the rectangular monopole patch antenna yield a wide bandwidth along with band notches. The proposed antenna is backed with an AMC metasurface that changes the bidirectional radiation pattern to a unidirectional, thus, considerably reducing the Specific Absorption Ratio (SAR). The demonstrated antenna has a good coverage radiating away from the body and presents reduced radiation towards the body with a front-to-back ratio of 13 dB and maximum gain of 3.54 dB. The proposed design… More >

Abstract This paper presents a radio optical network simulation tool (RONST) for modeling optical-wireless systems. For a typical optical and electrical chain environment, performance should be optimized concurrently before system implementation. As a result, simulating such systems turns out to be a multidisciplinary problem. The governing equations are incompatible with co-simulation in the traditional environments of existing software (SW) packages. The ultra-wideband (UWB) technology is an ideal candidate for providing high-speed short-range access for wireless services. The limited wireless reach of this technology is a significant limitation. A feasible solution to the problem of extending UWB signals is to transmit these… More >

Design of Miniature UWB-Based Antenna by Employing a Tri-Sectional SIR Feeder

    Ehab Dh. Hussein1,*, Yaqeen S. Mezaal2, Oguz Bayat1

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.41, No.3, pp. 1157-1172, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.021205

Abstract A novel ultra-wideband (UWB)-based microstrip antenna is presented in this work by using a slotted patch resonator, a tri-sectional stepped impedance resonator (SIR) feeder, as well as a reduced ground plane. The whole structure was realized on an FR4 substrate. The impact of incorporating several cases of ground planes on the input reflection has been thoroughly investigated under the same tri-sectional SIR feeder and by employing a slotted patch radiator. Since the complete ground plane presents an inadequate frequency response, by reducing the ground plane, the induced UWB responses are apparent while the antenna exhibits higher impedance bandwidth. The impact… More >

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.40, No.3, pp. 1183-1198, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.019872

Abstract This paper presents the design and analysis of a miniaturized and novel wearable ultra-wideband (UWB) band-notch textile antenna for Body Area Networks (BANs). The major goal of building the antenna for wearable applications with band notch in X-band is to reject the downlink band (7.25 to 7.75 GHz) of satellite communication in the UWB frequency ranges of 3.1–10.6 GHz to keep away from interference. Computer Simulation Technology (CST) TM Microwave Studio, which is user-friendly and reliable, was used to model and simulate the antenna. The radiating element of the antenna is designed on Jeans’ textile substrate, which has a relative… More >

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.40, No.2, pp. 673-689, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.019585

Abstract In this paper, a novel and compact ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna with band-notched characteristics for body-centric communication is examined and implemented. The shape of the designed antenna looks like a ‘swan’ with a slotted patch. The performance parameters of this antenna for both the free space and on-body scenario for body-centric communication are analyzed and investigated through the simulation process using Computer Simulation Technology (CST). This antenna can avoid the interference caused by Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) (5.15–5.825 GHz) and Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) (5.25–5.85 GHz) systems with a band notch because of newly designed UWB antenna is… More >

Ahmed Jamal Abdullah Al-Gburi*, Imran Bin Mohd Ibrahim, Zahriladha Zakaria, Badrul Hisham Ahmad, Noor Azwan Bin Shairi, Mohammed Yousif Zeain

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.70, No.1, pp. 1419-1436, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.019741

Abstract In this paper, a high gain and directional coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed ultra-wideband (UWB) planar antenna with a new frequency selective surface (FSS) unit cells design is proposed for UWB applications. The proposed UWB antenna was designed based on the Mercedes artistic-shaped planar (MAP) antenna. The antenna consisted of a circular ring embedded with three straight legs for antenna impedance bandwidth improvement. The modelled FSS used the integration of a two parallel conductive metallic patch with a circular loop structure. The FSS provided a UWB stopband filter response covering a bandwidth of 10.5 GHz, for frequencies from 2.2 to 12.7 GHz.… More >
