Different Deficit Irrigation Lower Limits and Irrigation Quotas Affect the Yield and Water Use Efficiency of Winter Wheat by Regulating Photosynthetic Characteristics

Huiqin Li, Mingzhi Zhang*, Na Xiao, Haijian Yang

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.12, pp. 3211-3236, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2023.031003

Abstract To determine suitable thresholds for deficit irrigation of winter wheat in the well-irrigated area of the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain, we investigated the effects of different deficit irrigation lower limits and quotas on the photosynthetic characteristics and grain yield of winter wheat. Four irrigation lower limits were set for initiating irrigation (i.e., light drought (LD, 50%, 55%, 60% and 50% of field holding capacity (FC) at the seedling-regreening, jointing, heading and filling-ripening stages, respectively), medium drought (MD, 40%, 50%, 55% and 45% of FC at the same stages, respectively), adequate moisture (CK1, 60%, 65%, 70% and 60% of FC at the same… More >

Retrieval of Winter Wheat Canopy Carotenoid Content with Ground- and Airborne-Based Hyperspectral Data

Ting Cui, Xianfeng Zhou*, Yufeng Huang, Yanting Guo, Yunrui Lin, Leyi Song, Jingcheng Zhang

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.9, pp. 2633-2648, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2023.029259

Abstract Accurate assessment of canopy carotenoid content (CCx+cC) in crops is central to monitor physiological conditions in plants and vegetation stress, and consequently supporting agronomic decisions. However, due to the overlap of absorption peaks of carotenoid (Cx+c) and chlorophyll (Ca), accurate estimation of carotenoid using reflectance where carotenoid absorb is challenging. The objective of present study was to assess CCx+cC in winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) with ground- and aircraft-based hyperspectral measurements in the visible and near-infrared spectrum. In-situ hyperspectral reflectance were measured and airborne hyperspectral data were acquired during major growth stages of winter wheat in five consecutive field experiments.… More >

Differentiation of Wheat Diseases and Pests Based on Hyperspectral Imaging Technology with a Few Specific Bands

    Lin Yuan1, Jingcheng Zhang2,*, Quan Deng2, Yingying Dong3, Haolin Wang2, Xiankun Du2

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.2, pp. 611-628, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.023662

Abstract Hyperspectral imaging technique is known as a promising non-destructive way for detecting plants diseases and pests. In most previous studies, the utilization of the whole spectrum or a large number of bands as well as the complexity of model structure severely hampers the application of the technique in practice. If a detection system can be established with a few bands and a relatively simple logic, it would be of great significance for application. This study established a method for identifying and discriminating three commonly occurring diseases and pests of wheat, i.e., powdery mildew, yellow rust and aphid with a few… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.72, No.3, pp. 6107-6118, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.027611

Abstract Climate change has inevitably had a negative impact on agricultural production and food security. Crop breeding improvement is an efficient option to adapt to future climate and increase grain production. To study the potential to provide valuable advice for breeding under climate change condition, the crop growth model was used as basis to investigate, the effects of the cultivar genotype parameters of the crop estimation through resource and environment synthesis-wheat (CERES-Wheat) model on yield under different climate scenarios. In this study, solar radiation had a positive effect on the yield of winter wheat, while the effects of daily temperature change… More >

Effect of Pre-Anthesis Drought Hardening on Post-Anthesis Physiological Characteristics, Yield and WUE in Winter Wheat

    Ruitao Lou1, Daoxi Li1,*, Yanbin Li1, Zepeng Bian1, Yanan Zhu2

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.90, No.1, pp. 245-257, 2021, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2020.014073

Abstract A drought event can cause yield loss or entire crops to fail. In order to study the effects of continuous drought on physiological characteristics, yield, and water use efficiency (WUE) of winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), the variety “Zhoumai 22” was grown in controlled water conditions of the pot-planted winter wheat under a mobile rainout shelter. Foot planting and safe wintering were used to evaluate, winter wheat under different drought conditions, including light, moderate and severe drought at the jointing, heading, and filling stages. The soil water content was controlled at 60–70%, 50–60%, or 40–50% of field capacity. Experimental trials… More >

Effects of Multi-Stage Continuous Drought on Photosynthetic Characteristics, Yield and Water Use Efficiency of Winter Wheat

    Daoxi Li1,*, Ruitao Lou1, Yanbin Li1, Zepeng Bian1, Ya’nan Zhu2

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.89, No.3, pp. 691-703, 2020, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2020.010661

Abstract A drought event can cause entire crops to fail or yield loss. In order to study the effects of continuous drought on photosynthetic characteristics, yield, and water use efficiency (WUE) of winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), the winter wheat variety “Aikang 58” was selected as test material with controlling the water of the pot-planted winter wheat under a mobile rainout shelter. Based on foot planting and safe wintering, winter wheat was evaluated under different drought conditions, including light, moderate and severe drought at the jointing (B), heading (C), and filling (G) stages. The soil water content was controlled in a… More >
