TRACE SPECIES AND AIR POLLUTANT TRANSPORT IN GREEN FACADES: A VERNONIA ELAEAGNIFOLIA CASE STUDY FOR A BUILT ENVIRONMENT

    Jacob Thottathil Varghesea,*, Sat Ghosha,b

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.7, pp. 1-7, 2016, DOI:10.5098/hmt.7.34

Abstract Nature has its own astonishing capabilities to cleanse polluted environment. Living green drapes on buildings look elegant providing sustainable solutions in congested metropolises. VIT University promotes green values within the country. The walls of a subway connecting the main campus and hostel premises are draped with Vernonia elaeagnifolia, which was found to be efficient in capturing vehicular pollution. An experimental study established deposition patterns of pollutants. Thereafter, diffusive uptake modelling elucidated the mechanistic details of mass transport through the plant tissues. It is expected that the results of this paper will promote the use of green facades within built environment. More >

Molecular mechanisms and cellular process in signal transduction pathway related to air pollutants in obstructive lung diseases: A mini-review

    AN-SOO JANG*

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.8, pp. 1703-1708, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.028975

Abstract Exposure to air pollutants such as PM10, PM2.5, PM0.1, O3, CO, NO2, and SO2, and biological pollutants are important factors causing the evolution and furtherance of obstructive lung diseases (OLD), including asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Asthma is the most frequent chronic inflammatory airway disease, characterized by breathlessness, wheezing, chest tightness, and cough, together with the presence of exaggerated expiratory airflow fluctuation that varies over time. COPD is a heterogeneous lung condition characterized by chronic respiratory symptoms such as dyspnea, cough, expectoration, and/or exacerbations due to abnormalities of the airways and/or alveoli that cause persistent, often progressive, airflow… More >

Multi-Site Air Pollutant Prediction Using Long Short Term Memory

Chitra Paulpandi*, Murukesh Chinnasamy, Shanker Nagalingam Rajendiran

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.43, No.3, pp. 1341-1355, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.023882

Abstract The current pandemic highlights the significance and impact of air pollution on individuals. When it comes to climate sustainability, air pollution is a major challenge. Because of the distinctive nature, unpredictability, and great changeability in the reality of toxins and particulates, detecting air quality is a puzzling task. Simultaneously, the ability to predict or classify and monitor air quality is becoming increasingly important, particularly in urban areas, due to the well documented negative impact of air pollution on resident’s health and the environment. To better comprehend the current condition of air quality, this research proposes predicting air pollution levels from… More >

    K. S. Bhuvaneshwari1, J. Uma2, K. Venkatachalam3, Mehedi Masud4, Mohamed Abouhawwash5,6,*, T. Logeswaran7

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.1, pp. 683-695, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.021477

Abstract Air pollution is one of the major concerns considering detriments to human health. This type of pollution leads to several health problems for humans, such as asthma, heart issues, skin diseases, bronchitis, lung cancer, and throat and eye infections. Air pollution also poses serious issues to the planet. Pollution from the vehicle industry is the cause of greenhouse effect and CO2 emissions. Thus, real-time monitoring of air pollution in these areas will help local authorities to analyze the current situation of the city and take necessary actions. The monitoring process has become efficient and dynamic with the advancement of the… More >
