Numerical Assessments on Flow Topology and Heat Transfer Behavior in a Round Tube Inserted with Three Sets of V-Ribs

    Amnart Boonloi1, Withada Jedsadaratanachai2,*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.21, pp. 81-106, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2023.041547

Abstract Simulation of fluid-flow topology and thermal behavior in a round tube heat exchanger (RTHX) installed by three V-rib sets is reported. The expected phenomena for the rib installation are the generated vortex flow, impinging flow, greater fluid blending and thermal boundary layer disturbance (TBLD). These phenomena are key causes of the augmentation of heat transfer potentiality and thermal efficiency of the RTHX. Effects of rib height (b1 = 0.05D – 0.25D and b2 = 0.05D – 0.25D), rib pitch or rib spacing (P = D, 1.5D and 2D) and fluid directions (positive x (+x flow direction) and negative x (–x… More > Graphic Abstract

Vital Parameters Assessments of Starvation Tolerance of in vitro Populus alba Culture

    Mohamed Fathy Ahmed1, Eman Zakaria Ahmed2, Salman Aloufi3, Mohammed Alqurashi3, Amal Alyamani3, Eman Fayad3, Eman Tawfik Hussien2,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.91, No.4, pp. 889-902, 2022, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.018600

Abstract Populus alba is a large woody deciduous plant. The plant has been introduced to shooting, then multiplication of rooting on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium. This work was designed to estimate the effect of two factors (low levels of 1-Naphthaleneacetic acid NAA and sucrose) on P. alba response resulting in 6 treatments compared to the control, with twelve measured responses. There was a significant difference in some measurements in morphology, like plantlets fresh-weight, shoot-, root-length, and leaf number. In the physiological measurements, there were significant differences in all the measured parameters. The low concentrations of sucrose and media composition/power (MS… More >

Surface Topography Assessments of Spine Shape Change within the Day in Healthy Male Adults

    Jianming Lu1,*, Liangliang Xiang2, Huw Wiltshire3

    Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics, Vol.18, No.3, pp. 123-129, 2021, DOI:10.32604/mcb.2021.015993

Abstract Surface topography is a no-invasive, radiation-free method that can measure sufficient surface spine parameters by the structured back surface scan and a precise anatomical landmarks recognition. The purpose of the present study was to measure the spine shape parameter changes within the day via the DIERS Formetric 4D analysis system. Ten male healthy volunteers were recruited to participate in the experiment. All participants were sedentary people with the average sitting time during study or work t ≥ 8 h and without any back disease in the past six months. Data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA, which set time points within… More >

A Successful Framework for the ABET Accreditation of an Information System Program

Waleed Rashideh1,*, Omar Abdullah Alshathry1, Samer Atawneh2, Hussein Al Bazar3, Mohammed Said AbualRub4

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.26, No.6, pp. 1285-1307, 2020, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2020.012995

Abstract Scientific programs in higher educational institutes are measured by their performances in showing evidences for expected quality assurance levels and for obtaining the academic accreditation. However, obtaining an accreditation for a scientific program is a lengthy process, as it requires extensive efforts from all members belonging to the program. The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accreditation is a common form of quality assurance that is based on different areas such as computing, engineering and sciences. In order to determine the ABET accreditation, several processes and methods are assessed to guarantee the required accreditation. Similar to many other programs,… More >

Cochlear Synaptopathy Following Noise Exposure in Guinea Pigs: Its Electrophysiological and Histological Assessments

Parvane Mahdi1, Akram Pourbakht1,*, Vahid Pirhajati Mahabadi2, Alireza Karimi Yazdi3, Mahtab Rabbani Anari3, Mohammad Kamali4

    Sound & Vibration, Vol.54, No.3, pp. 163-177, 2020, DOI:10.32604/sv.2020.09880

Abstract Exposure to high level of noise, may cause the permanent cochlear synaptic degeneration. In present study, a model of noise induced cochlear synaptopathy was established and the electrophysiological and histological metrics for its assessment was designed. 6 guinea pigs were subjected to a synaptopathic noise (octave band of 4 kHz at 104 dB SPL, for 2-h). The amplitude growth curve of Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) wave-I and wave-III latency shift in presence of noise were calculated. These indexes were considered in pre-exposure, 1 day post exposure (1DPE), 1 week post exposure (1WPE) and 1 month post exposure (1MPE) to noise.… More >

The Peak Stress Method Applied to Fatigue Strength Assessments of Load Carrying Transverse Fillet Welds with Toe or Root Failures

    G. Meneghetti1

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.8, No.2, pp. 111-130, 2012, DOI:10.3970/sdhm.2012.008.111

Abstract This paper deals with the local approach based on the Notch Stress Intensity Factors (NSIFs) to analyse the fatigue behavior of welded joints. In transverse load carrying fillet-welded joints, failure may occur either at the toe or at the root, depending on the geometry. At the toe, due to the flank angles that are usually encountered in practice, mode I local stresses are singular, while mode II stresses are not. Conversely, at the root of the particular joints analysed in the present paper both mode I and mode II stresses are singular and must be taken into account in fatigue… More >
