A Reputation-Based AODV Protocol for Blackhole and Malfunction Nodes Detection and Avoidance

    Qussai M. Yaseen1,2,*, Monther Aldwairi2,3, Ahmad Manasrah4,5

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.80, No.2, pp. 1867-1888, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.051179 - 15 August 2024

Abstract Enhancing the security of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) improves the usability of their applications. Therefore, finding solutions to various attacks, such as the blackhole attack, is crucial for the success of WSN applications. This paper proposes an enhanced version of the AODV (Ad Hoc On-Demand Distance Vector) protocol capable of detecting blackholes and malfunctioning benign nodes in WSNs, thereby avoiding them when delivering packets. The proposed version employs a network-based reputation system to select the best and most secure path to a destination. To achieve this goal, the proposed version utilizes the Watchdogs/Pathrater mechanisms in… More >

Mitigating Blackhole and Greyhole Routing Attacks in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks Using Blockchain Based Smart Contracts

    Abdulatif Alabdulatif1,*, Mada Alharbi1, Abir Mchergui2, Tarek Moulahi3,4

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.138, No.2, pp. 2005-2022, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.029769 - 17 November 2023

Abstract The rapid increase in vehicle traffic volume in modern societies has raised the need to develop innovative solutions to reduce traffic congestion and enhance traffic management efficiency. Revolutionary advanced technology, such as Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), enables improved traffic management, helps eliminate congestion, and supports a safer environment. ITS provides real-time information on vehicle traffic and transportation systems that can improve decision-making for road users. However, ITS suffers from routing issues at the network layer when utilising Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs). This is because each vehicle plays the role of a router in this… More >

Avoid Suspicious Route of Blackhole Nodes in MANET’s: Using A Cooperative Trapping

    Abdllkader Esaid1,*, Mary Agoyi2

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.45, No.2, pp. 1901-1915, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.027819 - 03 November 2022

Abstract Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) is decentralized wireless network and can communicate without existing infrastructure in many areas. MANET is vulnerable to various attacks that affect its performance such as blackhole attack. Blackhole attacker, inject fault routing information to persuade the source node to select the path with malicious node as the shortest path. To eliminate malicious nodes from launching any collaborative attack. A cooperative Trapping Approach (CTA) was proposed based on modifying Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol and trapping the malicious nodes by responding to the trap request message. The approach aims to More >

Fuzzy Reputation Based Trust Mechanism for Mitigating Attacks in MANET

    S. Maheswari, R. Vijayabhasker*

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.35, No.3, pp. 3677-3692, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.031422 - 17 August 2022

Abstract Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANET) usage across the globe is increasing by the day. Evaluating a node’s trust value has significant advantages since such network applications only run efficiently by involving trustable nodes. The trust values are estimated based on the reputation values of each node in the network by using different mechanisms. However, these mechanisms have various challenging issues which degrade the network performance. Hence, a novel Quality of Service (QoS) Trust Estimation with Black/Gray hole Attack Detection approach is proposed in this research work. Initially, the QoS-based trust estimation is proposed by using a… More >
