    In vitro polymerization of the dopamine-borate melanin precursor: A proof-of-concept regarding boron neutron-capture therapy for melanoma

    Abstract

    The 10boron neutron-capture therapy (BNCT) is an emerging antitumoral method that shows increasing biomedical interest. BNCT is based on the selective accumulation of the 10boron isotope within the tumor, which is then irradiated with low-energy thermal neutrons, generating nuclear fission that produces 7lithium, 4helium, and γ rays. Simple catechol-borate esters have been rather overlooked as precursors of melanin biosynthesis, and therefore, a proof-of-concept approach for using dopamine-borate (DABO) as a suitable boron-containing candidate for potential BNCT is presented here.     Abstract A tung oil-based boron-nitrogen coordination polymer (TWE-BN) was specially designed and synthesized as a highly efficient water-based lubricant additive, which has been beneficial to both energy conservation and conducive to environmental protection. Its hydrolysis stability and tribological properties in water were investigated. To better research the lubricating properties, and thus to understand the interaction between the surface and the lubricating additives.     Abstract Paper packaging materials like cardboards are widely used to protect archives which are a major kind of cultural relics. Unfortunately, paper is a combustible material, and thus exploring environment-friendly flame retardant for paper-based archive packaging material plays an important role. Herein, boric acid, borax and disodium octaborate are used to modify the craft paper-based packaging materials for archive conservation to improve fire safety.
