B-Spline-Based Curve Fitting to Cam Pitch Curve Using Reinforcement Learning

    Zhiwei Lin1, Tianding Chen1,*, Yingtao Jiang2, Hui Wang1, Shuqin Lin1, Ming Zhu2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.36, No.2, pp. 2145-2164, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.035555

Abstract Directly applying the B-spline interpolation function to process plate cams in a computer numerical control (CNC) system may produce verbose tool-path codes and unsmooth trajectories. This paper is devoted to addressing the problem of B-spline fitting for cam pitch curves. Considering that the B-spline curve needs to meet the motion law of the follower to approximate the pitch curve, we use the radial error to quantify the effects of the fitting B-spline curve and the pitch curve. The problem thus boils down to solving a difficult global optimization problem to find the numbers and positions of the control points or… More >

Comparative Analysis of Equal and Unequal Grounding Grid Configurations by Compression Ratio and Least Square Curve Fitting Techniques

    M. Soni*, Abraham George

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.3, pp. 597-616, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.021301

Abstract The primary aim of the power system grounding is to safeguard the person and satisfying the performance of the power system to maintain reliable operation. With equal conductor spacing grounding grid design, the distribution of the current in the grid is not uniform. Hence, unequal grid conductor span in which grid conductors are concentrated more at the periphery is safer to practice than equal spacing. This paper presents the comparative analysis of two novel techniques that create unequal spacing among the grid conductors: the least-square curve fitting technique and the compression ratio technique with equal grid configuration for both square… More >

B-Spline Curve Approximation by Utilizing Big Bang-Big Crunch Method

    Özkan inik1,∗, Erkan Ülker2, ismail Koç2

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.35, No.6, pp. 431-440, 2020, DOI:10.32604/csse.2020.35.431

Abstract The location of knot points and estimation of the number of knots are undoubtedly known as one of the most difficult problems in B-Spline curve approximation. In the literature, different researchers have been seen to use more than one optimization algorithm in order to solve this problem. In this paper, Big Bang-Big Crunch method (BB-BC) which is one of the evolutionary based optimization algorithms was introduced and then the approximation of B-Spline curve knots was conducted by this method. The technique of reverse engineering was implemented for the curve knot approximation. The detection of knot locations and the number of… More >

Analysis-Aware Modelling of Spacial Curve for Isogeometric Analysis of Timoshenko Beam

Yang Xia*, Luting Deng, Jian Zhao

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.124, No.2, pp. 605-626, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2020.010204

Abstract Geometric fitting based on discrete points to establish curve structures is an important problem in numerical modeling. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the geometric fitting method for curved beam structure from points, and to get high-quality parametric model for isogeometric analysis. A Timoshenko beam element is established for an initially curved spacial beam with arbitrary curvature. The approximation and interpolation methods to get parametric models of curves from given points are examined, and three strategies of parameterization, meaning the equally spaced method, the chord length method and the centripetal method are considered. The influences of the different… More >

Devanagari Handwriting Grading System Based on Curvature Features

    Munish Kumar1, Simpel Rani Jindal2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.113, No.2, pp. 195-202, 2017, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2017.113.201

Abstract Grading of writers in perspective of their handwriting is a challenging task owing to various writing styles of different individuals. This paper presents a framework for grading of Devanagari writers in perspective of their handwriting. This framework of grading can be useful in conducting the handwriting competitions and then deciding the winners on the basis of an automated process. Selecting the set of features is a challenging task for implementing a handwriting grading system of particular language. In this paper, curvature features, namely, parabola curve fitting and power curve fitting have been considered for extracting the vital information of writers,… More >

Evaluation of Seismic Design Values in the Taiwan Building Code by Using Artificial Neural Network

    Tienfuan Kerh1,2, J.S. Lai1, D. Gunaratnam2, R. Saunders2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.26, No.1, pp. 1-12, 2008, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2008.026.001

Abstract Taiwan frequently suffers from strong ground motion, and the current building code is essentially based on two seismic zones, A and B. The design value of horizontal acceleration for zone A is 0.33g, and the value for zone B is 0.23g. To check the suitability of these values, a series of actual earthquake records are considered for evaluating peak ground acceleration (PGA) for each of the zones by using neural network models. The input parameters are magnitude, epicenter distance, and focal depth for each of the checking stations, and the peak ground acceleration is calculated as the output with the… More >
