Aysenur Elmali1, Birhan Demirhan2, Caglayan Selenge Beduk Esen3, Ozan Cem Guler4, Pervin Hurmuz5, Cem Onal1,4,*

    Canadian Journal of Urology, Vol.32, No.4, pp. 243-254, 2025, DOI:10.32604/cju.2025.066700 - 29 August 2025

Abstract Background: Intermediate-risk prostate cancer (IR-PC) represents a heterogeneous group requiring nuanced treatment approaches, and recent advancements in radiotherapy (RT), androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), and prostate-specific membrane antigen positron emission tomography (PSMA-PET/CT) imaging have prompted growing interest in personalized, risk-adapted management strategies. This study by the Turkish Society for Radiation Oncology aims to examine radiation oncologists’ practices in managing IR-PC, focusing on RT and imaging modalities to identify trends for personalized treatments. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among Turkish radiation oncologists treating at least 50 prostate cancer (PC) cases annually. The 22-item questionnaire covered IR-PC… More >

    Siliang Liu1,#, Hong Tang2,#, Ying Xia1, Zhengtao Yu1, Ning Gao1,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.49, No.7, pp. 1245-1264, 2025, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2025.064396 - 25 July 2025

Abstract Objectives: NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain-containing (NLRP) 1-mediated pyroptosis plays a key role in the pathogenesis of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury (CIRI). C-Myc is reported to play a major role in CIRI. However, the mechanism remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate whether c-Myc affects CIRI by regulating Serine/Arginine-rich Splicing Factor 1 (SRSF1)/NLRP1-mediated pyroptosis. Methods: Oxygen-glucose deprivation/reperfusion (OGD/R) induced neuroblastoma cells for the establishment of an in vitro CIRI model. The levels of c-Myc and SRSF1, cell viability, the expression of pyroptosis-related factors, and the interaction between SRSF1 and NLRP1 were evaluated. Results: The expression of c-Myc and… More >

    YANG GU1,#,*, MINGGUANG BI2,#, DEHUI CHEN3, NING NI4, JIANMING CHEN1,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.9, pp. 2069-2080, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.029989 - 28 September 2023

Abstract Background: The underlying mechanism of sciatic nerve injury (SNI) is a common motor functional disorder, necessitates further research. Methods: A rat model of SNI was established, with the injury group subjected to compressive injury of the right sciatic nerve exposed at the midpoint of the thigh and the sham surgery group undergoing the same surgical procedure. An oxygen-glucose deprivation model was employed to simulate in vitro SNI in PC12 cells. Following data acquisition and quality control, differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) in each model were identified through differential analysis, and enrichment analysis was used to explore the… More >

Dissecting the effects of androgen deprivation therapy on cadherin switching in advanced prostate cancer: A molecular perspective

    LOKMAN VARISLI1,2, VEYSEL TOLAN1, JIYAN H. CEN3, SPIROS VLAHOPOULOS4, OSMAN CEN5,6,*

    Oncology Research, Vol.30, No.3, pp. 137-155, 2022, DOI:10.32604/or.2022.026074 - 12 January 2023

Abstract Prostate cancer is one of the most often diagnosed malignancies in males and its prevalence is rising in both developed and developing countries. Androgen deprivation therapy has been used as a standard treatment approach for advanced prostate cancer for more than 80 years. The primary aim of androgen deprivation therapy is to decrease circulatory androgen and block androgen signaling. Although a partly remediation is accomplished at the beginning of treatment, some cell populations become refractory to androgen deprivation therapy and continue to metastasize. Recent evidences suggest that androgen deprivation therapy may cause cadherin switching, from More >

Dexmedetomidine alleviates oxygen and glucose deprivation-induced apoptosis in mesenchymal stem cell via downregulation of MKP-1

    RUICONG GUAN1,3,#, KUAN ZENG1,#, MINNAN GAO1, JIANFEN LI1, HUIQI JIANG1, LU ZHANG1, JINGWEN LI1, BIN ZHANG1, YUQIANG LIU1, ZHUXUAN LIU1, DIAN WANG1, YANQI YANG1,2,*

Abstract Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-based therapy is a novel candidate for heart repair. But ischemia-reperfusion injury leads to low viability of MSC. Dexmedetomidine (Dex) has been found to protect neurons against ischemia-reperfusion injury. It remains unknown if Dex could increase the viability of MSCs under ischemia. The present study is to observe the potential protective effect of Dex on MSCs under ischemia and its underlying mechanisms. Specific mRNAs related to myocardial ischemia in the GEO database were selected from the mRNA profiles assessed in a previous study using microarray. The most dysregulated mRNAs of… More >

Abstract In this study, we investigated the protective effect of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) on PC12 and H9C2 cell damage caused by oxygen-glucose deprivation/reperfusion and its possible mechanism. PC12 and H9C2 cell oxygen-glucose deprivation/reperfusion model were established. Cells were divided into a control group, model group, hyperbaric air (HBA) group and HBO group. The cell viability was detected by the CCK8 assay. Hoechst 33342 and PI staining assays and mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) assays were used to detect cell apoptosis. The ultrastructure of cells, including autophagosomes, lysosomes, and apoptosis, were examined using a transmission electron microscope. The… More >

    Canadian Journal of Urology, Vol.28, No.4, pp. 10738-10742, 2021

Abstract Introduction: Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) is often used in the treatment of prostate cancer. Specific factors affecting testosterone recovery after cessation of ADT have not been well-characterized in existing literature.
Materials and methods: We retrospectively reviewed patients at our institution who received ADT between 1999 and 2018. Patients with at least one course of ADT and subsequent testosterone level within 12 months of cessation of ADT were included. Patients received at least one of the following four agents: leuprolide, goserelin, triptorelin, and degarelix. Cox regression models were utilized to estimate the effect of patient and treatment characteristics… More >

Photo-Activatable Akt Probe: A New Tool to Study the Akt-Dependent Physiopathology of Cancer Cells

Sanae Haga*, Takeaki Ozawa, Naoki Morita, Mami Asano§, Shigeki Jin, Yimin#, Michitaka Ozaki*§¶

    Oncology Research, Vol.26, No.3, pp. 467-472, 2018, DOI:10.3727/096504017X15040166233313

Abstract Akt is commonly overexpressed and activated in cancer cells and plays a pivotal role in cell survival, protection, and chemoresistance. Therefore, Akt is one of the target molecules in understanding characters of cancer cells and developing anticancer drugs. Here we examined whether a newly developed photo-activatable Akt (PA-Akt) probe, based on a light-inducible protein interaction module of plant cryptochrome2 (CRY2) and cryptochrome-interacting basic helix–loop–helix (CIB1), can regulate Akt-associated cell functions. By illuminating blue light to the cells stably transfected with PA-Akt probe, CRY2-Akt (a fusion protein of CRY2 and Akt) underwent a structural change and… More >
