    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.46, No.1, pp. 303-319, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.034374

Abstract Hyperspectral imaging is gaining a significant role in agricultural remote sensing applications. Its data unit is the hyperspectral cube which holds spatial information in two dimensions while spectral band information of each pixel in the third dimension. The classification accuracy of hyperspectral images (HSI) increases significantly by employing both spatial and spectral features. For this work, the data was acquired using an airborne hyperspectral imager system which collected HSI in the visible and near-infrared (VNIR) range of 400 to 1000 nm wavelength within 180 spectral bands. The dataset is collected for nine different crops on agricultural land with a spectral… More >

    A Hybrid Regularization-Based Multi-Frame Super-Resolution Using Bayesian Framework

    Mahmoud M. Khattab1,2,*, Akram M Zeki1, Ali A. Alwan3, Belgacem Bouallegue2, Safaa S. Matter4, Abdelmoty M. Ahmed2

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.44, No.1, pp. 35-54, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.025251

Abstract The prime purpose for the image reconstruction of a multi-frame super-resolution is to reconstruct a higher-resolution image through incorporating the knowledge obtained from a series of relevant low-resolution images, which is useful in numerous fields. Nevertheless, super-resolution image reconstruction methods are usually damaged by undesirable restorative artifacts, which include blurring distortion, noises, and stair-casing effects. Consequently, it is always challenging to achieve balancing between image smoothness and preservation of the edges inside the image. In this research work, we seek to increase the effectiveness of multi-frame super-resolution image reconstruction by increasing the visual information and improving the automated machine perception,… More >

Curvelet Transform Based on Edge Preserving Filter for Retinal Blood Vessel Segmentation

    Sonali Dash1, Sahil Verma2,*, Kavita2, N. Z. Jhanjhi3, Mehedi Masud4, Mohammed Baz5

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.2, pp. 2459-2476, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.020904

Abstract Segmentation of vessel in retinal fundus images is a primary step for the clinical identification for specific eye diseases. Effective diagnosis of vascular pathologies from angiographic images is thus a vital aspect and generally depends on segmentation of vascular structure. Although various approaches for retinal vessel segmentation are extensively utilized, however, the responses are lower at vessel's edges. The curvelet transform signifies edges better than wavelets, and hence convenient for multiscale edge enhancement. The bilateral filter is a nonlinear filter that is capable of providing effective smoothing while preserving strong edges. Fast bilateral filter is an advanced version of bilateral… More >

An Adaptive SAR Despeckling Method Using Cuckoo Search Algorithm

Memoona Malik*, Iftikhar Azim, Amir Hanif Dar, Sohail Asghar

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.29, No.1, pp. 165-182, 2021, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2021.017437

Abstract Despeckling of SAR imagery is a crucial step prior to their automated interpretation as information extraction from noisy images is a challenging task. Though a huge despeckling literature exists in this regard, there is still a room for improvement in existing techniques. The contemporary despeckling techniques adversely affect image edges during the noise reduction process and are thus responsible for losing the significant image features. Therefore, to preserve important features during the speckle reduction process, a two phase hybrid despeckling filter is proposed in this study. The first phase of the hybrid filter focuses on edge preservation by employing a… More >

Improved Geometric Anisotropic Diffusion Filter for Radiography Image Enhancement

Mohamed Ben Gharsallaha, Issam Ben Mhammedb, Ezzedine Ben Braieka

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.24, No.2, pp. 231-240, 2018, DOI:10.1080/10798587.2016.1262457

Abstract In radiography imaging, contrast, sharpness and noise there are three fundamental factors that determine the image quality. Removing noise while preserving and sharpening image contours is a complicated task particularly for images with low contrast like radiography. This paper proposes a new anisotropic diffusion method for radiography image enhancement. The proposed method is based on the integration of geometric parameters derived from the local pixel intensity distribution in a nonlinear diffusion formulation that can concurrently perform the smoothing and the sharpening operations. The main novelty of the proposed anisotropic diffusion model is the ability to combine in one process noise… More >
