Turbulent Double-Diffusive Natural Convection and Entropy Generation within an Inclined Square Cavity

Khaled Said*, Ahmed Ouadha, Amina Sabeur

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.6, pp. 1619-1629, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.022220

Abstract The present study deals with double-diffusive convection within a two-dimensional inclined cavity filled with an air-CO2 binary gas mixture. The left and the right vertical walls are differentially heated and subjected to different locations of (CO2) contaminants to allow for the variation of the buoyancy strength (N). However, the horizontal walls are assumed adiabatic. The simulations are conducted using the finite volume method to solve the conservation equations of continuity, momentum, energy, and species transport. Good agreement with other numerical results in the literature is obtained. The effect of multiple parameters, namely, buoyancy ratio (N), thermal Rayleigh number (Ra), and… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.68, No.1, pp. 213-228, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.014383

Abstract Entropy Generation Optimization (EGO) attained huge interest of scientists and researchers due to its numerous applications comprised in mechanical engineering, air conditioners, heat engines, thermal machines, heat exchange, refrigerators, heat pumps and substance mixing etc. Therefore, the study of radiative hybrid nanofluid (GO-MoS2/C2H6O2–H2O) and the conventional nanofluid (MoS2/C2H6O2–H2O) is conducted in the presence of Lorentz forces. The flow configuration is modeled between the parallel rotating plates in which the lower plate is permeable. The models which govern the flow in rotating system are solved numerically over the domain of interest and furnished the results for the temperature, entropy generation and… More >

    Samer H. Atawneh1, Waqar A. Khan2, Nawaf N. Hamadneh3,*, Adeeb M. Alhomoud3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.67, No.1, pp. 73-87, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.012351

Abstract The objectives of this study involve the optimization of longitudinal porous fins of square cross-section using metaheuristic algorithms. A generalized nonlinear ordinary differential equation is derived using Darcy and Fourier’s laws in the energy balance around a control volume and is solved numerically using RFK 45 method. The temperature of the base surface is higher than the fin surface, and the fin tip is kept adiabatic or cooled by convection heat transfer. The other pertinent parameters include Rayleigh number (100 ≤ Ra ≤ 104), Darcy number, (10−4 ≤ Da ≤ 10−2), relative thermal conductivity ratio of solid phase to fluid (1000 ≤ kr ≤ 8000), Nusselt number (10 ≤ Nu ≤ 100), porosity (0.1 ≤ φ ≤ 0.9).… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.66, No.1, pp. 575-587, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.012505

Abstract The current investigation aims to explore the combined effects of heat and mass transfer on free convection of Sodium alginate-Fe3O4 based Brinkmann type nanofluid flow over a vertical rotating frame. The Tiwari and Das nanofluid model is employed to examine the effects of dimensionless numbers, including Grashof, Eckert, and Schmidt numbers and governing parameters like solid volume fraction of nanoparticles, Hall current, magnetic field, viscous dissipation, and the chemical reaction on the physical quantities. The dimensionless nonlinear partial differential equations are solved using a finite difference method known as Runge-Kutta Fehlberg (RKF-45) method. The variation of dimensionless velocity, temperature, concentration,… More >

Second Law Analysis and Optimization of Elliptical Pin Fin Heat Sinks Using Firefly Algorithm

    Nawaf N. Hamadneh1, Waqar A. Khan2, Ilyas Khan3, *

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.65, No.2, pp. 1015-1032, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.011476

Abstract One of the most significant considerations in the design of a heat sink is thermal management due to increasing thermal flux and miniature in size. These heat sinks utilize plate or pin fins depending upon the required heat dissipation rate. They are designed to optimize overall performance. Elliptical pin fin heat sinks enhance heat transfer rates and reduce the pumping power. In this study, the Firefly Algorithm is implemented to optimize heat sinks with elliptical pin-fins. The pin-fins are arranged in an inline fashion. The natureinspired metaheuristic algorithm performs powerfully and efficiently in solving numerical global optimization problems. Based on… More >

    Mohamed Abd El-Aziz1, 2, A. M. Aly1, 3, *

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.62, No.1, pp. 37-59, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.08488

Abstract In the present study, the effects of the magnetic field on the entropy generation during fluid flow and heat transfer of a Sisko-fluid over an exponentially stretching surface are considered. The similarity transformations are used to transfer the governing partial differential equations into a set of nonlinear-coupled ordinary differential equations. Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg method is used to solve the governing problem. The effects of magnetic field parameter M, local slip parameter λ, generalized Biot number γ, Sisko fluid material parameter A, Eckert number Ec, Prandtl number Pr and Brinkman number Br at two values of power law index on the velocity, temperature,… More >

Numerical Simulation of Entropy Generation in Hydrogen-Air Burner

    SouadMorsli1,*, Amina Sabeur1, Mohammed El Ganaoui2

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.11, No.4, pp. 342-353, 2015, DOI:10.3970/fdmp.2015.011.342

Abstract The aim of this work is the numerical simulation of the combustion of hydrogen with air in a burner and the numerical solution of local entropy generation rate in the combustion chamber. The effects of equivalence ratio φ and oxygen percentage γ on combustion and entropy generation rates are studied for different φ(ranging from 0 to 1.0) and γ values (ranging from 10 to 30%). The predictions show that the increase of φ (or the decrease of λ ) reduces notably the reaction rate levels. The equations of continuity, of energy and momentum are solved by volume finite using commercial… More >
