Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.15, pp. 1-9, 2020, DOI:10.5098/hmt.15.7

Abstract This article is a summary of research involving the evaluation of the thermo-physical properties of Mono-ethylene - glycol-based solar thermic fluids oxidized multiwalled carbon nanotubes. Nanofluids were prepared with Mono-ethylene glycol and water as base fluids in 100:0, 90:10 and 80:20 ratios. These base fluids of three categories were dispersed with purified and oxidized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) in the weight fractions of 0.125, 0.25 and 0.5 percentages. The variation in zeta potential is studied to examine the dispersion stability during 2 months. Thermal conductivity and dynamic viscosity were measured by hot disk method and… More >

Kafel Azeez Mohammeda,*, Ahmed Mustaffa Saleemb , Zain alabdeen H. Obaida

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.16, pp. 1-8, 2021, DOI:10.5098/hmt.16.20

Abstract Numerical investigation is performed for the determination of Nusselt number of ZnO, TiO2 and SiO2 nanoparticles dispersed in 60% ethylene glycol and 40% water inside inclined cylinder for adiabatic and isothermal process. The present study was conducted for both the constant heat flux (10,000 W/m2) and constant wall temperature (313.15 K) boundary conditions. At the inlet, the uniform axial velocity and initial temperature (293 K) were assumed. The results show the change of average Nusselt number at Reynolds number (400), Rayleigh number (106) and volume fraction percentage (2%). From results for adiabatic process when increasing the slop More >

    Saeed Kazemi Najafi1, Farhood Najafi2, Antonio Pizzi3,*, Fatemeh Hassani Khorshidi1,*, Rabi Behrooz1

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.5, pp. 2171-2189, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.027835

Abstract Polyols are groups of organic compounds which contain carbon and are randomly linked to other atoms, especially carbon-carbon and carbon-hydrogen. These compounds are mainly used as reactants to make other polymers. Among biopolymers, lignin is regarded as the base of a new polymer in polyol construction. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of amine type (diethylenetriamine and ethylenediamine) on the modification of lignin-based polyols, so as to provide an alternative to petroleum polyols and, in turn, increase functional groups and reduce their harm to humans’ health and the environment. To this aim, first,… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract Genetic polymorphism has a vital role in the pathogenesis and development of myocardial infarction (MI). Single nucleotide polymorphism at any one of the amino acid sequences can result in a diseased state. A single gene can exhibit genetic polymorphism at more than one position giving rise to different variants. Genetic polymorphism of angiotensinogen (AGT) M235T, AGT T174M, and angiotensin-1-converting enzyme (ACE) I/D, endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), and methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) can be a risk factor for MI. However, it is important to study the prevalence of genetic polymorphisms of these genes among different populations. More >

Study of Thermal, Phase Morphological and Mechanical Properties of Poly(L-lactide)-b-Poly(ethylene glycol)-b-Poly(L-lactide)/Poly(ethylene glycol) Blend Bioplastics

    Yodthong Baimark*, Theeraphol Phromsopha

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.4, pp. 1881-1894, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.025400

Abstract A poly(L-lactide)-b-poly(ethylene glycol)-b-poly(L-lactide)(PLLA-PEG-PLLA) block copolymer has great potential for use as a flexible bioplastic. Highly flexible bioplastics are required for flexible packaging applications. In this work, a PEG was incorporated into block copolymer as a plasticizer by solvent casting. PLLA-PEG-PLLA/ PEG blends with different blend ratios were prepared, and the plasticizing effect and miscibility of PEG in block copolymer were intensively investigated compared to PLLA/PEG blends. The results indicated that the PEG was an effective plasticizer for the block copolymer. The blending of PEG decreased glass-transition temperature and accelerated the crystallization of both the PLLA More > Graphic Abstract

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.5, pp. 1173-1187, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.021140

Abstract Composite fabrics based on Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) polymer displays several notable properties. They are waterproof, windproof, permeable to moisture and thermally insulating at the same time. In the present study, PTFE fibers are used as raw material to make fiber membranes. The film is formed by crisscrossing interconnected fiber filaments and the related air permeability: tensile creep characteristics and other properties are tested. The results show that the pore size, thickness, and porosity of the film itself can affect the moisture permeability of the film. The water pressure resistance of the selected fabric is 8.5 kPa, More >

Development of a Novel Extrusion Process for Preparing Rice Straw/LLDPE Composites

Huicheng Xu, Hao Xie, Weidong Shan, Weihong Wang*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.3, pp. 1123-1135, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.023959

Abstract Straw utilization is a key issue related to agricultural production and air pollution control. In this study, a novel extrusion process was proposed to improve the physical and mechanical properties of the straw-reinforced linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) composite. Instead of crushing the straw and mixing it with plastic matrix, the new method mixes straw with plastic matrix in its original form. The intact long rice straws were parallelly spread on the LLDPE film and then rolled up together into a prefabricated roll. The rolls experienced three extrusion processes as follows: (1) twin-screw melting, cooling and… More >

Abstract The effect of water deficit was determined on both in vitro and soil seedling as well as in cells in suspension of Agave americana L. In order to do the establishment of cells, the formation of callus was induced; for it two auxins were evaluated: 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) and 4-mino-3,5,6-trichloropicolinic acid (picloram) at three concentrations (0.25, 0.5 and 0.75 mg L−1) in three explants (leaf, root and meristems) cultured in MS semisolid medium. The callogenesis response was related to the type and section of the explant, as well as the regulator used, and a cell suspension was established… More >

    Jure Žigon1,*, Vit Šeda2, Petr Čermák2, Milan Šernek1

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.2, pp. 991-1001, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.023584

Abstract Various crosslinking agents can be added to the formulations of natural-based adhesives for wood bonding in order to achieve better durability and higher strength of the formed joints. In the present study, the effect of hexamethylenediamine (HMDA) addition on the performance of liquefied wood (LW) adhesive for wood bonding is investigated. Differential scanning calorimetry showed the improved thermal stability and crosslinking of the LW adhesive with HMDA. The intensified presence of amide linkages (C–N bonds) was found in LW+HMDA with attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Analysis of the bonded joints using an automated… More >
