    S. Sivakumar1,*, L. Jayakumar2

    Sound & Vibration, Vol.53, No.6, pp. 277-296, 2019, DOI:10.32604/sv.2019.08099

Abstract This paper elaborates a nonlinear fluidic low frequency vibration isolator designed with the characteristics of quasi-zero stiffness (QZS). The existing model of QZS vibration isolator enhances amplitude of vibration and attenuating vibration frequencies. This concern with displacement plays a vital role in the performance and instability of oblique spring setup reduces the isolator performance in horizontal non-nominal loads, in this accordance; this paper associates double acting hydraulic cylinder (fluidic actuators in short) in oblique and helical coil spring. An approximate expression of unique analytical relationship between the stiffness of vertical spring and bulk modulus of… More >

    Ikuo Ohnuma, Machiko Ode

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.22, No.2, pp. 133-133, 2019, DOI:10.32604/icces.2019.05431

Abstract Experimental investigation of phase equilibria in the Fe-Mn, Fe-Si, Fe-Al and Fe-Mn-Si-C systems was carried out. In the Fe-Mn system, α/γ equilibrium at temperatures below 600°C was revised by equilibration of severely deformed powder samples in which the α/γ equilibrated microstructures at low temperatures could be realized. In the Fe-Si and Fe-Al systems, the miscibility gap between A2, B2 and D03 phases as well as the A2/B2/D03 transition boundaries were determined precisely. Phase equilibria in the Al-rich region of the Fe-Al system were determined in detail. The α/γ equilibria in the Fe-Mn-C, Fe-Mn-C and Fe-Mn-Si-C systems More >

Bashir S. Shariat*, Sam Bakhtiari, Hong Yang, Yinong Liu

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.21, No.1, pp. 21-21, 2019, DOI:10.32604/icces.2019.05559

Abstract Shape memory alloys (SMAs) are a unique collection of materials which can return to their initial configuration after being largely deformed. Near-equiatomic NiTi is the most widely used SMA due to its excellent shape memory properties and fabricability. One exceptional property of this alloy is superelasticity, which refers to the ability of the alloy to accommodate relatively large deformation typically up to 8% of tensile strain and return to the original undeformed shape upon unloading. As a result of this outstanding feature, superelastic NiTi have been increasingly used in different areas of engineering, such as… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.13, No.4, pp. 213-220, 2017, DOI:10.3970/fdmp.2017.013.213

Abstract The main goal of this study was to investigate the thermal diffusion in ternary hydrocarbon mixtures composed of 1, 2, 3, 4 Tetrahydronaphtalene (THN)-Isobutylbenzene (IBB)-Dodecane (C12) with mass fractions of 80/10/10, 70/10/20, and 60/10/30 at mean temperature of 25 °C. Optical interferometry technique with Mach-Zehnder arrangement was used to conduct the experiments. The mixture was placed in a convectionless cell which was heated from above. The results for the mixture with mass fraction of 80/10/10 were in a good agreement with the corresponding benchmark values. Finally, the Soret coefficient for the other two mixtures have More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.5, pp. 1-8, 2014, DOI:10.5098/hmt.5.14

Abstract One of the traditional methods used to improve the efficiency of a gas turbine is to increases the inlet temperature; thereby increasing the power output and in turn, the efficiency. The internal cooling passages of blades are roughened by artificial roughness to improve the cooling performance. The present study investigates the convective heat transfer and friction factor (pressure drop) characteristics of a rib-roughened square duct. The test section of the duct is roughened on its top and bottom wall with V and ᴧ- shaped square ribs. In the study, the Reynolds number (Re) varied from 10,000… More >

Abstract Spherical leak detectors can detect very tiny leakage in pipelines and have low risk of blockage. In this paper the passing ability of the detector in the vertical segment of a pipe was studied using CFD simulations and experiments. The Reynolds number for the sphere exceeds 104 at the economical velocity range for oil pipelines, and there were few researches related to the hydrodynamic force on the sphere by the pipe flow at high Reynolds number. For sphere with different sizes and density, and at different flow rates, more than 100 3-D steady numerical simulations were… More >

Abstract In the present paper, the impingement of air jet on a heated flat plate subjected to a periodic oscillation is numerically and experimentally investigated. The motivation of the present research is the desire to enhance the heat transfer characteristics during the cooling process of a heated flat plate which can be found in many relevance industrial applications. In order to improve the heat transfer characteristics, a novel idea is utilized, where a periodical oscillation movement in form of sine wave produced from a Scotch yoke mechanism is applied to the heated flat plate. The obtained More >
