A Flexible Exponential Log-Logistic Distribution for Modeling Complex Failure Behaviors in Reliability and Engineering Data

    Hadeel AlQadi1, Fatimah M. Alghamdi2, Hamada H. Hassan3, Mohamed E. Mead4, Ahmed Z. Afify5,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.144, No.2, pp. 2029-2061, 2025, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2025.069801 - 31 August 2025

Abstract Parametric survival models are essential for analyzing time-to-event data in fields such as engineering and biomedicine. While the log-logistic distribution is popular for its simplicity and closed-form expressions, it often lacks the flexibility needed to capture complex hazard patterns. In this article, we propose a novel extension of the classical log-logistic distribution, termed the new exponential log-logistic (NExLL) distribution, designed to provide enhanced flexibility in modeling time-to-event data with complex failure behaviors. The NExLL model incorporates a new exponential generator to expand the shape adaptability of the baseline log-logistic distribution, allowing it to capture a… More >

Modeling, Simulation, and Risk Analysis of Battery Energy Storage Systems in New Energy Grid Integration Scenarios

    Xiaohui Ye1,*, Fucheng Tan1, Xinli Song2, Hanyang Dai2, Xia Li2, Shixia Mu2, Shaohang Hao2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.12, pp. 3689-3710, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2024.055200 - 22 November 2024

Abstract Energy storage batteries can smooth the volatility of renewable energy sources. The operating conditions during power grid integration of renewable energy can affect the performance and failure risk of battery energy storage system (BESS). However, the current modeling of grid-connected BESS is overly simplistic, typically only considering state of charge (SOC) and power constraints. Detailed lithium (Li)-ion battery cell models are computationally intensive and impractical for real-time applications and may not be suitable for power grid operating conditions. Additionally, there is a lack of real-time batteries risk assessment frameworks. To address these issues, in this… More >

Bayesian and Non-Bayesian Analysis for the Sine Generalized Linear Exponential Model under Progressively Censored Data

    Naif Alotaibi1, A. S. Al-Moisheer2, Ibrahim Elbatal1, Mohammed Elgarhy3,4, Ehab M. Almetwally1,5,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.140, No.3, pp. 2795-2823, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2024.049188 - 08 July 2024

Abstract This article introduces a novel variant of the generalized linear exponential (GLE) distribution, known as the sine generalized linear exponential (SGLE) distribution. The SGLE distribution utilizes the sine transformation to enhance its capabilities. The updated distribution is very adaptable and may be efficiently used in the modeling of survival data and dependability issues. The suggested model incorporates a hazard rate function (HRF) that may display a rising, J-shaped, or bathtub form, depending on its unique characteristics. This model includes many well-known lifespan distributions as separate sub-models. The suggested model is accompanied with a range of More >

Reliability-Based Model for Incomplete Preventive Replacement Maintenance of Photovoltaic Power Systems

Wei Chen, Ming Li*, Tingting Pei, Cunyu Sun, Huan Lei

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.1, pp. 125-144, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.042812 - 27 December 2023

Abstract At present, the operation and maintenance of photovoltaic power generation systems mainly comprise regular maintenance, breakdown maintenance, and condition-based maintenance, which is very likely to lead to over- or under-repair of equipment. Therefore, a preventive maintenance and replacement strategy for PV power generation systems based on reliability as a constraint is proposed. First, a hybrid failure function with a decreasing service age factor and an increasing failure rate factor is introduced to describe the deterioration of PV power generation equipment, and the equipment is replaced when its reliability drops to the replacement threshold in the… More >

Mathematical Modeling and Evaluation of Reliability Parameters Based on Survival Possibilities under Uncertain Environment

    Alhanouf Alburaikan1, Hamiden Abd El-Wahed Khalifa1,2, Pavan Kumar3,*, Seyedali Mirjalili4,6, Ibrahim Mekawy5

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.134, No.3, pp. 1943-1956, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.021815 - 20 September 2022

Abstract In this article, mathematical modeling for the evaluation of reliability is studied using two methods. One of the methods, is developed based on possibility theory. The performance of the reliability of the system is of prime concern. In view of this, the outcomes for the failure are required to evaluate with utmost care. In possibility theory, the reliability information data determined from decision-making experts are subjective. The same method is also related to the survival possibilities as against the survival probabilities. The other method is the one that is developed using the concept of approximation More >

Mechanical failure rate of da Vinci robotic system

Lester S. Borden Jr., Paul M. Kozlowski, Christopher R. Porter, John M. Corman

    Canadian Journal of Urology, Vol.14, No.2, pp. 3499-3501, 2007

Abstract Introduction: Robotic-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (RLRP) is playing an increasing role in the surgical management of prostate cancer. The benefits of minimally invasive surgery, enhanced surgeon familiarity with the instrumentation, and increased patient demand has led to the popularity of this surgical technique. There are, however, shortcomings specifically associated with this technology. Notably, instrumentation failure associated with robotic procedures represents a new and unique problem in urological surgery. We examine the rate of mechanical failure of the da Vinci robotic system and its impact on our prostate cancer program.
Materials and methods: We reviewed our prospective, institutional… More >
