    Longyu Zhang, Jiming Zhu*

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.16, No.4, pp. 397-416, 2022, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2022.010397

Abstract To investigate the effect of deep foundation pit excavation on the stability of retaining structure, a subway station in the city of Jinan was selected as a project, and a FLAC3D-based three dimensional model was developed for numerical simulation. The horizontal displacement of the retaining structure, the axial force of the support, and the vertical displacement of the column were studied and compared to the collected data from the field. The findings indicate that when the foundation pit is excavated, the maximum deformation of the retaining structure progressively decreases from the top, the distortion of the retaining structure gradually rises,… More >

Abstract This paper studies the impact of overhead excavation on an existing tunnel through both field monitoring and a full 3D numerical model. It is found that the excavation induced longitudinal heave of the tunnel is uneven with maximum heave occurring below the excavation center. Even at the same cross section, the excavation induced heave is not uniform with the most significant heave occurring at the tunnel crown. The bending moments of the tunnel lining is decreased due to the overhead excavation. The axial forces of the tunnel lining generally decrease except at the tunnel invert. The shear forces of the… More >
