Coordinated Control Strategy for Active Frequency Support in PV-Storage Integrated Systems

    Junxian Ma1, Haonan Zhao2,*, Zhibing Hu3, Yaru Shen3, Fan Ding3, Shouqi Jiang2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.123, No.2, 2026, DOI:10.32604/ee.2025.070530 - 27 January 2026

Abstract Energy storage-equipped photovoltaic (PV-storage) systems can meet frequency regulation requirements under various operating conditions, and their coordinated support for grid frequency has become a future trend. To address frequency stability issues caused by low inertia and weak damping, this paper proposes a multi-timescale frequency regulation coordinated control strategy for PV-storage integrated systems. First, a self-synchronizing control strategy for grid-connected inverters is designed based on DC voltage dynamics, enabling active inertia support while transmitting frequency variation information. Next, an energy storage inertia support control strategy is developed to enhance the frequency nadir, and an active frequency… More >

ESVG Adaptive Control Method for Fast Frequency Support of Wind Farm

    Yong Sun1, Haifeng Zhang1,2, Xiaozhe Song1, Yifu Zhang1,2, Song Gao1,2, Jiayang Zhang3,*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.122, No.5, pp. 1863-1885, 2025, DOI:10.32604/ee.2025.061940 - 25 April 2025

Abstract Aiming at the problems of large fluctuation of output active power and poor control performance in the process of frequency support of an energy-storage-type static-var-generator (ESVG), the adaptive adjustment control method for its active-loop parameters is used to realize the wind-farm frequency support, which has become the current research hotspot. Taking the ESVG with a supercapacitor on the DC side as the research object, the influence trend of the change of virtual rotation inertia and virtual damping coefficient on its virtual angular velocity and power angle is analyzed. Then, the constraint relationship between the equivalent… More >

A Temporary Frequency Response Strategy Using a Voltage Source-Based Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator and Energy Storage Systems

    Baogang Chen1, Fenglin Miao2,*, Jing Yang1, Chen Qi2, Wenyan Ji1

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.2, pp. 541-555, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.028327 - 25 January 2024

Abstract Energy storage systems (ESS) and permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSG) are speculated to be able to exhibit frequency regulation capabilities by adding differential and proportional control loops with different control objectives. The available PMSG kinetic energy and charging/discharging capacities of the ESS were restricted. To improve the inertia response and frequency control capability, we propose a short-term frequency support strategy for the ESS and PMSG. To this end, the weights were embedded in the control loops to adjust the participation of the differential and proportional controls based on the system frequency excursion. The effectiveness of More >
