Numerical Studies on Thermal and Hydrodynamic Characteristics of LNG in Helically Coiled Tube-in-Tube Heat Exchangers

Fayi Yan*, Xuejian Pei, He Lu, Shuzhen Zong

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.22, No.1, pp. 287-304, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2023.045038

Abstract As compact and efficient heat exchange equipment, helically coiled tube-in-tube heat exchangers (HCTT heat exchangers) are widely used in many industrial processes. However, the thermal-hydraulic research of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as the working fluid in HCTT heat exchangers is rarely reported. In this paper, the characteristics of HCTT heat exchangers, in which LNG flows in the inner tube and ethylene glycol-water solution flows in the outer tube, are studied by numerical simulations. The influences of heat transfer characteristics and pressure drops of the HCTT heat transfers are studied by changing the initial flow velocity, the helical middle diameter, and… More >

MODELING OF THE HEAT TRANSFER IN A SUPERCRITICAL CO2/DME MIXTURE FLOWING IN COOLED HELICALLY COILED TUBES

Yan Chena , Qingxin Bab,*, Xuefang Lib

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.16, pp. 1-9, 2021, DOI:10.5098/hmt.16.18

Abstract The heat transfer of supercritical CO2/DME mixtures was modeled in this study for a mass ratio of 95/5 for cooling in horizontal helically coiled tubes. The CO2/DME heat transfer coefficient was higher in the high-temperature zone than with pure CO2. The heat transfer of CO2/DME (95/5) was predicted for various mass fluxes, heat fluxes and pressures. The CO2/DME heat transfer coefficient increased with the mass flux due to the increased turbulent diffusion, and first increased but then decreased with the heat flux. The peak heat transfer coefficient of CO2/DME shifted toward the high-temperature region as the operating pressure increased. The… More >

EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF THE THERMAL PERFORMANCE OF CORRUGATED HELICALLY COILED TUBE-IN-TUBE HEAT EXCHANGER

Hussein Al-Gburi*, Akeel Abbas Mohammed, Audai Hussein Al-Abbas

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.20, pp. 1-7, 2023, DOI:10.5098/hmt.20.17

Abstract Transferring thermal energy efficiently necessitates utilizing a heat exchanger capable of producing the full thermal power of the energy supply at lowest possible cost and time. Therefore, in the present investigation, the impact of corrugated helical coil concentric tube-in-tube heat exchanger on the thermal performance is investigated experimentally. As a continuous in our issue of heat exchanger, the corrugated helical tube-in-tube is carried out and compared with smooth helical tube-in-tube for free convection heat transfer. The set-up of the experimental apparatus are designed and utilized to be appropriate for the cooling and heating systems of working fluid. The impacts of… More >
