A Hybrid Classification and Identification of Pneumonia Using African Buffalo Optimization and CNN from Chest X-Ray Images

    Nasser Alalwan1,*, Ahmed I. Taloba2, Amr Abozeid3, Ahmed Ibrahim Alzahrani1, Ali H. Al-Bayatti4

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.138, No.3, pp. 2497-2517, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.029910

Abstract An illness known as pneumonia causes inflammation in the lungs. Since there is so much information available from various X-ray images, diagnosing pneumonia has typically proven challenging. To improve image quality and speed up the diagnosis of pneumonia, numerous approaches have been devised. To date, several methods have been employed to identify pneumonia. The Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) has achieved outstanding success in identifying and diagnosing diseases in the fields of medicine and radiology. However, these methods are complex, inefficient, and imprecise to analyze a big number of datasets. In this paper, a new hybrid method for the automatic classification… More >

Reinforcing Artificial Neural Networks through Traditional Machine Learning Algorithms for Robust Classification of Cancer

Muhammad Hammad Waseem1, Malik Sajjad Ahmed Nadeem1,*, Ishtiaq Rasool Khan2, Seong-O-Shim3, Wajid Aziz1, Usman Habib4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.75, No.2, pp. 4293-4315, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.036710

Abstract Machine Learning (ML)-based prediction and classification systems employ data and learning algorithms to forecast target values. However, improving predictive accuracy is a crucial step for informed decision-making. In the healthcare domain, data are available in the form of genetic profiles and clinical characteristics to build prediction models for complex tasks like cancer detection or diagnosis. Among ML algorithms, Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) are considered the most suitable framework for many classification tasks. The network weights and the activation functions are the two crucial elements in the learning process of an ANN. These weights affect the prediction ability and the convergence… More >

An Efficient CNN-Based Hybrid Classification and Segmentation Approach for COVID-19 Detection

    Abeer D. Algarni1,*, Walid El-Shafai2, Ghada M. El Banby3, Fathi E. Abd El-Samie1,2, Naglaa F. Soliman1,4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.70, No.3, pp. 4393-4410, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.020265

Abstract COVID-19 remains to proliferate precipitously in the world. It has significantly influenced public health, the world economy, and the persons’ lives. Hence, there is a need to speed up the diagnosis and precautions to deal with COVID-19 patients. With this explosion of this pandemic, there is a need for automated diagnosis tools to help specialists based on medical images. This paper presents a hybrid Convolutional Neural Network (CNN)-based classification and segmentation approach for COVID-19 detection from Computed Tomography (CT) images. The proposed approach is employed to classify and segment the COVID-19, pneumonia, and normal CT images. The classification stage is… More >

An Automated Brain Image Analysis System for Brain Cancer using Shearlets

    R. Muthaiyan1,*, Dr M. Malleswaran2

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.40, No.1, pp. 299-312, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.018034

Abstract In this paper, an Automated Brain Image Analysis (ABIA) system that classifies the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) of human brain is presented. The classification of MRI images into normal or low grade or high grade plays a vital role for the early diagnosis. The Non-Subsampled Shearlet Transform (NSST) that captures more visual information than conventional wavelet transforms is employed for feature extraction. As the feature space of NSST is very high, a statistical t-test is applied to select the dominant directional sub-bands at each level of NSST decomposition based on sub-band energies. A combination of features that includes Gray Level… More >
