Optimization and Intelligent Control in Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems Incorporating Solar and Biomass

    Arpita Johri1,2,*, Varnita Verma3, Mainak Basu1,*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.122, No.5, pp. 1887-1918, 2025, DOI:10.32604/ee.2025.062355 - 25 April 2025

Abstract The globe faces an urgent need to close the energy demand-supply gap. Addressing this difficulty requires constructing a Hybrid Renewable Energy System (HRES), which has proven to be the most appropriate solution. HRES allows for integrating two or more renewable energy resources, successfully addressing the issue of intermittent availability of non-conventional energy resources. Optimization is critical for improving the HRES’s performance parameters during implementation. This study focuses on HRES using solar and biomass as renewable energy supplies and appropriate energy storage technologies. However, energy fluctuations present a problem with the power quality of HRES. To… More > Graphic Abstract

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.143, No.1, pp. 1185-1214, 2025, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2025.064636 - 11 April 2025

Abstract Hybrid renewable energy systems (HRES) offer cost-effectiveness, low-emission power solutions, and reduced dependence on fossil fuels. However, the renewable energy allocation problem remains challenging due to complex system interactions and multiple operational constraints. This study develops a novel Multi-Neighborhood Enhanced Harris Hawks Optimization (MNEHHO) algorithm to address the allocation of HRES components. The proposed approach integrates key technical parameters, including charge-discharge efficiency, storage device configurations, and renewable energy fraction. We formulate a comprehensive mathematical model that simultaneously minimizes levelized energy costs and pollutant emissions while maintaining system reliability. The MNEHHO algorithm employs multiple neighborhood structures… More >

Maximum Power Extraction Control Algorithm for Hybrid Renewable Energy System

    N. Kanagaraj*, Mohammed Al-Ansi

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.45, No.1, pp. 769-784, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.029457 - 16 August 2022

Abstract In this research, a modified fractional order proportional integral derivate (FOPID) control method is proposed for the photovoltaic (PV) and thermoelectric generator (TEG) combined hybrid renewable energy system. The faster tracking and steady-state output are aimed at the suggested maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control technique. The derivative order number (µ) value in the improved FOPID (also known as PIλDµ) control structure will be dynamically updated utilizing the value of change in PV array voltage output. During the transient, the value of µ is changeable; it’s one at the start and after reaching the maximum power… More >

Hybrid Renewable Energy System Using Cuckoo Firefly Optimization

    M. E. Shajini Sheeba1,*, P. Jagatheeswari2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.34, No.2, pp. 1141-1156, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.024549 - 03 May 2022

Abstract With abundant and non-polluting benefits in nature, sources of renewable energy have reached vast concentrations. This paper first discusses the number of MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) techniques utilized by wind and photovoltaic (PV) to create hybrid systems for generating wind-PV energy. This hybrid system complements each other day and night to enable continuous power output. Then, a new MPPT technique was proposed to extract maximum power using a newly developed hybrid optimization algorithm, namely the Cukoo Fire Fly method (CFF). The CFF algorithm is derived from the integration of the cuckoo search (CS) algorithm More >

    Hegazy Rezk1,2, Irik Z. Mukhametzyanov3, Mujahed Al-Dhaifallah4,*, Hamdy A. Ziedan5

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.68, No.2, pp. 2001-2027, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.015895 - 13 April 2021

Abstract Several models of multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) have identified the optimal alternative electrical energy sources to supply certain load in an isolated region in Al-Minya City, Egypt. The load demand consists of water pumping system with a water desalination unit. Various options containing three different power sources: only DG, PV-B system, and hybrid PV-DG-B, two different sizes of reverse osmosis (RO) units; RO-250 and RO-500, two strategies of energy management; load following (LF) and cycle charging (CC), and two sizes of DG; 5 and 10 kW were taken into account. Eight attributes, including operating cost, renewable… More >
