Analysis of the Flow Field and Impact Force in High-Pressure Water Descaling

    Yue Cui1,*, Liyuan Wang2, Jian Wu1, Haisheng Liu1, Di Wu1

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.1, pp. 165-177, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.030311

Abstract This study aims to improve the performances of the high-pressure water descaling technology used in steel hot rolling processes. In particular, a 2050 mm hot rolling line is considered, and the problem is investigated by means of a fluid–structure interaction (FSI) method by which the descaling effect produced by rolling coils with different section sizes is examined. Assuming a flat fan-shaped nozzle at the entrance of the R1R2 roughing mill, the out- flow field characteristics and the velocity distribution curve on the strike line (at a target distance of 30–120 mm) are determined. It is found that the velocity in… More >

A Discrete Numerical Study of the Effect of the Thickness and the Porosity of the Sand Cushion on the Impact Response Due to the Rockfall

    Song Yuan1, Peng Zhao2,*, Liangpu Li1,*, Xibao Wang1, Jun Liu3, Bo Zhang4

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.130, No.3, pp. 1683-1698, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.018507

Abstract The prevention and the reduction of the rockfall are the common measures of the prevention and the reduction of disasters. When the rock-shed resists the impact of the rockfall, the force that acts on the structure consists of the cushion dead load and the impact-induced load, of which the dynamic process of the propagation of the impact-induced load is complex. Therefore, we conducted a numerical study to investigate the impact of the rockfall. Considering the highly discrete characteristic of the sand, we developed a numerical model on the basis of the discrete element method (DEM). The numerical model, which simulation… More >

Impact Force Magnitude and Location Recognition of Composite Materials

    Yajie Sun1, 2, *, Yanqing Yuan2, Qi Wang2, Sai Ji1, 2, Lihua Wang3, Shao’en Wu4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.64, No.3, pp. 1647-1656, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.06331

Abstract In order to identify the location and magnitude of the impact force accurately, determine the damage range of the structure and accelerate the health monitoring of key components of the composite, this paper studies the location and magnitude of the impact force of composite plates by an inverse method. Firstly, a PZT sensor mounted on the material plate is used to collect the response signal generated by the impact force, which is from several impact locations, and establish transfer functions between the impact location and the PZT sensor. Secondly, this paper applies several forces to any location on the material… More >

Impact Force Identification of CFRP Structures Using Experimental Transfer Matrices

    S. Atobe1, H. Fukunaga1, N. Hu2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.26, No.1, pp. 67-90, 2011, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2011.026.067

Abstract This paper presents a method for identifying the location and force history of an impact force acting on CFRP structures such as laminated plates and stiffened panels. The identification method is an experimental one without using any analytical model of the structure. Here, experimental transfer matrices, which relate the impact force to the corresponding responses of PZT sensors, are used to identify the impact force. The transfer matrices are preliminarily constructed from the measured data obtained by impact tests with an impulse hammer. To identify the impact location, the arrival times of the flexural waves to the PZT sensors are… More >
