EXPERIMENTAL AND 3D-CFD STUDY ON OPTIMIZATION OF CONTROL VALVE DIAMETER FOR A CONVERGENT VORTEX TUBE

Seyed Ehsan Rafiee*, M. M. Sadeghiazad

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.7, pp. 1-15, 2016, DOI:10.5098/hmt.7.13

Abstract The aim of this investigation is study on separation phenomenon inside a special vortex tube affected by structural and physical factors including; throttle diameter, nozzle number and injection pressure as well as the parametric optimization based on separation efficiency using experimental and 3D-CFD methods. The results show that convergent VT with Dth=5.5mm provides 30.01% and 20.04% higher cooling and heating effectiveness compared to basic model. As another result, the higher injection pressure, the higher cooling effectiveness. The cooling effectiveness improves (16.86%) with increase in slot number up to N=4, then decreases. The maximum disagreement between experimental and predicted values is… More >

INVESTIGATION ON THE EFFECT OF INJECTION PRESSURES ON THE SPRAY CHARACTERISTICS FOR DIETHYL ETHER AND DIESEL FUEL AT DIFFERENT CHAMBER TEMPERATURES

Vijayakumar Thulasi, R. Thundil Karuppa Raj*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.10, pp. 1-9, 2018, DOI:10.5098/hmt.10.33

Abstract Diethyl ether is one of the potential alternative fuels for the high speed compression ignition engines that can replace the existing neat diesel fuel. It is well known that the combustion characteristic of a compression ignition engine is highly influenced by the fuel spray structure formed during the injection process. In this paper the spray structure formation for the diethyl ether fuel is studied numerically, using the discrete phase model and it is compared with the neat diesel fuel. The spray is investigated in a constant volume chamber maintained at 30 bar pressure. The fuel is injected into the chamber… More >

Analysis of the Emissions and Performance of a Diesel Engine Using Pumpkin Seed Oil Methyl Ester with Different Injection Pressures

    Surendrababu Kuppusamy1,*, Prabhahar Muthuswamy2, Muthurajan Kumarasamy3, Sendilvelan Subramanian4

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.4, pp. 1003-1014, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.022262

Abstract Biodiesel fuel is a potential alternative energy source for diesel engines due to its physiochemical characteristics relatively similar to those of traditional diesel fuel. In this study, the performance, emission, and combustion features of a mono cylinder DI diesel engine are assessed using 20% Pumpkin seed methyl ester (PSOME20) and considering varying injection pressures (200, 220, 240, and 260 bar). The considered Pumpkin seed oil is converted into pumpkin biodiesel by transesterification and then used as fuel. The findings demonstrate that the Brake Thermal Efficiency (BTE) of PSOME20 can be raised by 1.68%, and the carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbon (HC),… More > Graphic Abstract

Experimental study of interfacial phenomena between the heavy oil and maximum solvent concentration as function of injection pressures

    Hameed Muhamad1, Simant Upreti 2, Ali Lohi3, Huu Doan4

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.12, No.3, pp. 111-123, 2016, DOI:10.3970/fdmp.2016.012.111

Abstract Heavy Oil is an up and coming energy resource that is aggressively being sought after as the world’s energy demand increases. As technology continues to improve, this once costly energy source is quickly becoming a more viable alternative. Vapor extraction (Vapex) process is an emerging technology for viscous oil recovery that has gained much attention in the oil industry. The vapor extraction of heavy oil system is presented to describe experimental setups and procedures used to perform different experiments of vape extraction process. The generated experimental data were used to calculate the live oil maximum interfacial solvent concentration as function… More >
