Deployment Strategy for Multiple Controllers Based on the Aviation On-Board Software-Defined Data Link Network

    Yuting Zhu1, Yanfang Fu2,*, Yang Ce3, Pan Deng1, Jianpeng Zhu1, Huankun Su1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.77, No.3, pp. 3867-3894, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.046772

Abstract In light of the escalating demand and intricacy of services in contemporary terrestrial, maritime, and aerial combat operations, there is a compelling need for enhanced service quality and efficiency in airborne cluster communication networks. Software-Defined Networking (SDN) proffers a viable solution for the multifaceted task of cooperative communication transmission and management across different operational domains within complex combat contexts, due to its intrinsic ability to flexibly allocate and centrally administer network resources. This study pivots around the optimization of SDN controller deployment within airborne data link clusters. A collaborative multi-controller architecture predicated on airborne data link clusters is thus proposed.… More >

Enabling Reachability Across Multiple Domains Without Controller Synchronization in SDN

    Nauman Khan1,2, Rosli Bin Salleh1,*, Ihsan Ali1, Zahid Khan3, Noman Mazhar1, Roobaea Alroobaea4, Fahad Almansour5, Usman Ali1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.69, No.1, pp. 945-965, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.017394

Abstract Software-defined networking (SDN) makes network agile and flexible due to its programmable approach. An extensive network has multiple domains in SDN for the scalability and performance of the network. However, the inter-domain link is also crucial for the stability of the entire network on the data plane layer. More than one inter-domain connection enhances the scalability of the data plane layer. However, it faces a reachability problem with the principal root, which causes forwarding loops and packet drops in the network, thereby degrading network performance. The proposed solution is a multiple controller architecture; however, this approach increases the complexity and… More >

Load Balancing Algorithm for Migrating Switches in Software-Defined Vehicular Networks

    Himanshi Babbar1, Shalli Rani1,*, Mehedi Masud2, Sahil Verma3, Divya Anand4, Nz Jhanjhi5

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.67, No.1, pp. 1301-1316, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.014627

Abstract In Software-Defined Networks (SDN), the divergence of the control interface from the data plane provides a unique platform to develop a programmable and flexible network. A single controller, due to heavy load traffic triggered by different intelligent devices can not handle due to it’s restricted capability. To manage this, it is necessary to implement multiple controllers on the control plane to achieve quality network performance and robustness. The flow of data through the multiple controllers also varies, resulting in an unequal distribution of load between different controllers. One major drawback of the multiple controllers is their constant configuration of the… More >
