Development of a Data‐Driven ANFIS Model by Using PSO‐LSE Method for Nonlinear System Identification

    Ching‐Yi Chen, Yi‐Jen Lin

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.25, No.2, pp. 319-327, 2019, DOI:10.31209/2019.100000093

Abstract In this study, a systematic data-driven adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) modelling methodology is proposed. The new methodology employs an unsupervised competitive learning scheme to build an initial ANFIS structure from input-output data, and a high-performance PSO-LSE method is developed to improve the structure and to identify the consequent parameters of ANFIS model. This proposed modelling approach is evaluated using several nonlinear systems and is shown to outperform other modelling approaches. The experimental results demonstrate that our proposed approach is able to find the most suitable architecture with better results compared with other methods from the literature. More >

    Haitao Liao1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.115, No.2, pp. 233-262, 2018, DOI: 10.3970/cmes.2018.01004

Abstract A hybrid method combined the reduced Sequential Quadratic Programming (SQP) method with the harmonic balance method has been developed to analyze the characteristics of mode localization and internal resonance of nonlinear bladed disks. With the aid of harmonic balance method, the nonlinear equality constraints for the constrained optimization problem are constructed. The reduced SQP method is then utilized to deal with the original constrained optimization problem. Applying the null space decomposition technique to the harmonic balance algebraic equations results in the vanishing of the nonlinear equality constraints and a simple optimization problem involving only upper and lower bound constraints on… More >

Applications of Two-dimensional Parameter-induced Stochastic Resonance in Nonlinear Image Processing

    Bohou Xu1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.11, No.4, pp. 97-98, 2009, DOI:10.3970/icces.2009.011.097

Abstract Stochastic resonance is a mechanical concept and may be used to image processing. This paper aims to develop an elementary theory of two-dimensional parameter-induced stochastic resonance (PSR) in order to contribute a new approach to nonlinear image processing. For tackling applications of stochastic resonance (SR) in image processing where adding noise may not be an easy task, we propose to generalize the concept of parameter-induced stochastic resonance from the one-dimensional case to the two-dimensional case. Specially, a novel two-dimensional system which demonstrates the feature of parameter-induced stochastic resonance is proposed for nonlinear image processing. An interesting feature of this paper… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.100, No.5, pp. 399-444, 2014, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2014.100.399

Abstract In this paper three numerical techniques are proposed for solving the system of N-coupled nonlinear Schrödinger (CNLS) equations. Firstly, we obtain a time discrete scheme by approximating the first-order time derivative via the forward finite difference formula, then for obtaining a full discretization scheme, we use the Kansa’s approach to approximate the spatial derivatives via radial basis functions (RBFs) collocation methodology. We introduce the moving least squares (MLS) approximation and radial point interpolation method (RPIM) with their shape functions, separately. It should be noted that the shape functions of RPIM unlike the shape functions of the MLS approximation have kronecker… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.100, No.1, pp. 59-84, 2014, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2014.100.059

Abstract In this study, we consider ill-posed time-domain inverse problems for dynamical systems with various boundary conditions and unknown controllers. Dynamical systems characterized by a system of second-order nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) are recast into a system of nonlinear first order ODEs in mixed variables. Radial Basis Functions (RBFs) are assumed as trial functions for the mixed variables in the time domain. A simple collocation method is developed in the time-domain, with Legendre-Gauss-Lobatto nodes as RBF source points as well as collocation points. The duffing optimal control problem with various prescribed initial and final conditions, as well as the orbital… More >

Constrained Optimization Multi-dimensional Harmonic Balance Method for Quasi-periodic Motions of Nonlinear Systems

    Haitao Liao1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.95, No.3, pp. 207-234, 2013, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2013.095.207

Abstract The constrained optimization multi-dimensional harmonic balance method for calculating the quasi-periodic solutions of nonlinear systems is presented. The problem of determining the worst quasi-periodic response is transformed into a nonlinear optimization problem with nonlinear equality constraints. The general nonlinear equality constraints are built using a set of nonlinear algebraic equations which is derived using the multi-dimensional harmonic balance method. The Multi- Start algorithm is adopted to solve the resulting constrained maximization problem. Finally, the validity of the proposed method is demonstrated with a Duffing oscillator and numerical case studies for problems with uncertainties are performed on a nonlinear two-degree of… More >

    Abstract In this continuation of a series of our earlier papers, we define a hyper-surface h(x,t) = 0 in terms of the unknown vector x, and a monotonically increasing function Q(t) of a time-like variable t, to solve a system of nonlinear algebraic equations F(x) = 0. If R is a vector related to ∂h / ∂x, , we consider the evolution equation x· = λ[αR + βP], where P = F − R(F·R) / ||R||2 such that P·R = 0; or x· = λ[αF + βP], where P = R − F(F·R) / ||F||2 such that P*·F =… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.72, No.3, pp. 229-246, 2011, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2011.072.229

Abstract Chaotic behavior of uncertain nonlinear systems offers a rich variety of orbits, which can be controlled by bounding the signals involved in closed-loop systems. In this paper, systems with nonlinear uncertainties with no prior knowledge of their bounds, unmodeled dynamic law and rapidly varying disturbances are analyzed in order to propose a stabilization controller of the chaotic behavior via the fuzzy logic systems. Bohou Xu1, Yibing Yang1, Zhong-Ping Jiang2, Daniel W. Repperger3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.57, No.2, pp. 159-174, 2010, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2010.057.159

Abstract A modified two-dimensional parameter-induced stochastic resonance (2D-PSR) system is proposed. Both theoretical and simulation results indicate that the 2D-PSR system performs a resonant-like behavior when system parameters are properly adjusted. When applied to degraded image processing, 2D-PSR technique is proved to be able to attain higher SNR gain than traditional linear filters. Due to its strong robustness to environmental changes, adaptability, and complementarities with other methods, the proposed 2D-PSR technique turns out to be promising in the field of image processing. Modeling Helicopter Rotor Blade Flapping Motion Considering Nonlinear Aerodynamics

    Jyoti Ranjan Majhi, Ranjan Ganguli1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.27, No.1&2, pp. 25-36, 2008, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2008.027.025

Abstract The flapping equation for a rotating rigid helicopter blade is typically derived by considering 1) small flap angle, 2) small induced angle of attack and 3) linear aerodynamics. However, the use of nonlinear aerodynamics can make the assumptions of small angles suspect. A general equation describing helicopter blade flap dynamics for large flap angle and large induced inflow angle of attack is derived in this paper with nonlinear aerodynamics . Numerical simulations are performed by solving the nonlinear flapping ordinary differential equation for steady state conditions and the validity of the small angle approximations are examined. It is shown that… More >
