    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.40, No.3, pp. 201-224, 2009, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2009.040.201

Abstract The radially symmetric motion of the pre-existing micro-void centered at an incompressible hyperelastic sphere under the dynamic surface tensile loads relating to time is investigated in this paper. Some interesting conclusions are obtained by qualitatively analyzing the solutions of the motion equation of micro-void in detail; meanwhile, numerical simulations are used for understanding the obtained conclusions. In particular, it is proved that the motion of the micro-void with time would present a nonlinearly periodic oscillation if the values of the constant tensile load, the material and the structure parameters are given and that the oscillation amplitudes of the micro-void are… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.10, No.4, pp. 503-520, 2014, DOI:10.3970/fdmp.2014.010.503

Abstract Computations related to a heat transfer and fluid flow of a plane isothermal fully developed turbulent plane jet flowing into a rectangular hot cavity are reported in this paper. Both velocity and temperature distributions are computed by solving the two-dimensional Unsteady Reynolds Averaged Navier--Stokes (URANS) equations. This approach relies on one point statistical modeling based on the energy - specific dissipation (k-ω) turbulence model. The numerical simulations are carried out in the framework of a finite volume method. This problem is relevant to a wide range of practical applications including forced convection and the ventilation of mines, enclosure or corridors.… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.4, No.1, pp. 43-54, 2008, DOI:10.3970/fdmp.2008.004.043

Abstract Dynamic free surface deformations induced by buoyant and thermocapillary convection in liquid bridges of 5cSt silicone oil are studied experimentally and numerically. The experiments are performed in ground conditions and static deformation is unavoidable. Convective motion starts in the liquid bridge as soon as ΔT ≠ 0 and initially leads to a stationary dynamic deformation of the free surface. Oscillatory motion starts at a critical value of ΔT and causes oscillations of the interface. The final supercritical shape of the free surface is a result of the static shape with superimposed subcritical stationary and oscillatory dynamic deformations. All these contributions… More >

Recent Developments in Oscillatory Marangoni Convection

    Y. Kamotani1, S. Matsumoto2, S. Yoda2

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.3, No.2, pp. 147-160, 2007, DOI:10.3970/fdmp.2007.003.147

Abstract A Marangoni Convection Modeling Research group was formed in Japan in order to investigate oscillatory thermocapillary flow systematically over a wide range of Prandtl number (Pr). The research by the group represents the current status of the subject. The present article reports the work done by the group members. The work is divided into three Pr ranges (low, medium and high) because the cause of oscillations is different in each range. For the low-Pr case, the transition to oscillatory flow is preceded by a steady bifurcation to three-dimensional convection. For the first time an experimental proof of this first transition… More >

Controllability Conditions of Finite Oscillations of Hyper-Elastic Cylindrical Tubes Composed of a Class of Ogden Material Models

    X.G. Yuan1,2, R.J. Zhang3, H.W. Zhang1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.7, No.3, pp. 155-166, 2008, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2008.007.155

Abstract In this paper, the dynamic inflation problems are examined for infinitely long cylindrical tubes composed of a class of transversely isotropic incompressible Ogden material models. The inner surface of the tube is subjected to a class of periodic step radial pressures relating to time. The influences of various parameters, namely, the material parameters, the structure parameters and the applied pressures, on dynamic behaviors of the tube are discussed in detail. Significantly, for some given material parameters, it is proved that the motion of the tube would present a class of nonlinear periodic oscillations for any given pressures and the amplitude… More >

Nonlinear Dynamical Analysis in Incompressible Transversely Isotropic Nonlinearly Elastic Materials: Cavity Formation and Motion in Solid Spheres

    X.G. Yuan1, R.J. Zhang2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.3, No.3, pp. 119-130, 2006, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2006.003.119

Abstract In this paper, the problem of cavity formation and motion in an incompressible transversely isotropic nonlinearly elastic solid sphere, which is subjected to a uniform radial tensile dead load on its surface, is examined in the context of nonlinear elastodynamics. The strain energy density associated with the nonlinearly elastic material may be viewed as the generalized forms of some known material models. It is proved that some determinate conditions must be imposed on the form of the strain energy density such that the surface tensile dead load has a finite critical value. Correspondingly, as the surface tensile dead load exceeds… More >
