A DFE2-SPCE Method for Multiscale Parametric Analysis of Heterogenous Piezoelectric Materials and Structures

    Qingxiang Pei1,2, Fan Li2,3, Ziheng Fei4, Haojie Lian2,3, Xiaohui Yuan1,2,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.83, No.1, pp. 79-96, 2025, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2025.061741 - 26 March 2025

Abstract This paper employs the Direct Finite Element Squared (DFE2) method to develop Sparse Polynomial Chaos Expansions (SPCE) models for analyzing the electromechanical properties of multiscale piezoelectric structures. By incorporating variations in piezoelectric and elastic constants, the DFE2 method is utilized to simulate the statistical characteristics—such as expected values and standard deviations—of electromechanical properties, including Mises stress, maximum in-plane principal strain, electric potential gradient, and electric potential, under varying parameters. This approach achieves a balance between computational efficiency and accuracy. Different SPCE models are used to investigate the influence of piezoelectric and elastic constants on multiscale piezoelectric More >

Parametric Analysis and Designing Maps for Powder Spreading in Metal Additive Manufacturing

    Yuxuan Wu, Sirish Namilae*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.142, No.2, pp. 2067-2090, 2025, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2024.059091 - 27 January 2025

Abstract Powder bed fusion (PBF) in metallic additive manufacturing offers the ability to produce intricate geometries, high-strength components, and reliable products. However, powder processing before energy-based binding significantly impacts the final product’s integrity. Processing maps guide efficient process design to minimize defects, but creating them through experimentation alone is challenging due to the wide range of parameters, necessitating a comprehensive computational parametric analysis. In this study, we used the discrete element method to parametrically analyze the powder processing design space in PBF of stainless steel 316L powders. Uniform lattice parameter sweeps are often used for parametric… More >

Parametric Analysis and Design Considerations for Micro Wind Turbines: A Comprehensive Review

    Dattu Ghane*, Vishnu Wakchaure

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.11, pp. 3199-3220, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2024.050952 - 21 October 2024

Abstract Wind energy provides a sustainable solution to the ever-increasing demand for energy. Micro-wind turbines offer a promising solution for low-wind speed, decentralized power generation in urban and remote areas. Earlier researchers have explored the design, development, and performance analysis of a micro-wind turbine system tailored for small-scale renewable energy generation. Researchers have investigated various aspects such as aerodynamic considerations, structural integrity, efficiency optimization to ensure reliable and cost-effective operation, blade design, generator selection, and control strategies to enhance the overall performance of the system. The objective of this paper is to provide a comprehensive design… More >

Plus Energy Buildings: A Numerical Case Study

    Abed Hawila1,2,3, Hala Alsalloum4, Abdelatif Merabtine1,*, Farouk Fardoun4,5, Rachid Bennacer6

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.1, pp. 117-134, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.022151 - 02 August 2022

Abstract The feasibility of Plus Energy Building for a sample relevant case is investigated. After a literature review aimed to identify key aspects of this type of buildings, a preliminary evaluation of the thermal performance of a building constructed using conventional material is presented together with a parametric analysis of the impact of typical influential parameters. Solar domestic hot water (SDHW) and photovoltaic systems (PV) are considered in the study. Numerical simulations indicate that for the examined sample case (Beirut in Lebanon) the total annual energy need of conventional building is 87.1 kWh/y.m2 . About 49% of More >

A Cell Method Stress Analysis in Thin Floor Tiles Subjected to Temperature Variation

    E. Ferretti1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.36, No.3, pp. 293-322, 2013, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2013.036.293

Abstract The Cell Method is applied in order to model the debonding mechanism in ceramic floor tiles subjected to positive thermal variation. The causes of thermal debonding, very usual in radiant heat floors, have not been fully clarified at the moment. There exist only a few simplified analytical approaches that assimilate this problem to an eccentric tile compression, but these approaches introduce axial forces that, in reality, do not exist. In our work we have abandoned the simplified closed form solution in favor of a numerical solution, which models the interaction between tiles and sub-base more… More >
