    Abstract Flight dynamics of flapping insects is still an open area of research, though it is well known that they can provide superior flight abilities such as hovering motion. The numerical analysis of flapping wing requires fluid-structure interaction (FSI) analysis to evaluate the effect of deformable wing on flight ability. Such FSI analysis is quite challenging because not only the tight coupling approach to predict flight ability accurately, but also the robust mesh control to trace the large motion of the wing with elastic deformation are required.     Abstract The present paper discussion is concerned with the development of robust and efficient algorithms to model propagation of interacting acoustic and elastic waves. The paper considers acoustic-elastic, acoustic-acoustic and elastic-elastic partitioned analyses of coupled systems; however, the focus here is the acoustic-elastic coupling considering finite elements and the acoustic-acoustic coupling considering finite elements and finite differences (other coupling procedures can be implemented analogously). One important feature of the algorithms presented is that they allow considering different time-steps for different sub-domains; so it is possible to substantially improve efficiency, accuracy and stability of the central difference time integration algorithm employed here.… More >

    Mixed Convection Investigation in an Opened Partitioned Heated Cavity

    Abstract Mixed convection in a rectangular partitioned cavity equipped with two heated partitions at a constant temperature, TC, is investigated numerically. The right vertical wall is featured by two openings (C1 and C2) for admission of cooled air along the horizontal direction, while the lower wall has a single outlet opening (C3) along the vertical axis.
