    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.68, No.2, pp. 2001-2027, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.015895

Abstract Several models of multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) have identified the optimal alternative electrical energy sources to supply certain load in an isolated region in Al-Minya City, Egypt. The load demand consists of water pumping system with a water desalination unit. Various options containing three different power sources: only DG, PV-B system, and hybrid PV-DG-B, two different sizes of reverse osmosis (RO) units; RO-250 and RO-500, two strategies of energy management; load following (LF) and cycle charging (CC), and two sizes of DG; 5 and 10 kW were taken into account. Eight attributes, including operating cost, renewable fraction, initial cost, the cost… More >

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.3, pp. 447-458, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.014590

Abstract In this work, a life cycle analysis is accomplished for flat plate solar collectors. The purpose of this investigation is to predict the energy consumption during the manufacturing processes that results in carbon dioxide emissions. Energy consumption and system efficiency enhancement will be studied and predicted. CES EduPack software is used to perform the analysis of the currently commercial system, and the suggested changes are implemented to increase the efficiency and make the comparison. Even though cost analysis is done, the priority of selection is given to the most energy conserving and environmentally friendly alternative. However, if the compared alternatives… More >

Fractional-Order Control of a Wind Turbine Using Manta Ray Foraging Optimization

    Hegazy Rezk1,2,*, Mohammed Mazen Alhato3, Mohemmed Alhaider1, Soufiene Bouallègue3,4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.68, No.1, pp. 185-199, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.016175

Abstract In this research paper, an improved strategy to enhance the performance of the DC-link voltage loop regulation in a Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) based wind energy system has been proposed. The proposed strategy used the robust Fractional-Order (FO) Proportional-Integral (PI) control technique. The FOPI control contains a non-integer order which is preferred over the integer-order control owing to its benefits. It offers extra flexibility in design and demonstrates superior outcomes such as high robustness and effectiveness. The optimal gains of the FOPI controller have been determined using a recent Manta Ray Foraging Optimization (MRFO) algorithm. During the optimization process,… More >

Load Frequency Control of Multi-interconnected Renewable Energy Plants Using Multi-Verse Optimizer

    Hegazy Rezk1,*, Mohamed A. Mohamed2, Ahmed A. Zaki Diab2, N. Kanagaraj1

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.37, No.2, pp. 219-231, 2021, DOI:10.32604/csse.2021.015543

Abstract A reliable approach based on a multi-verse optimization algorithm (MVO) for designing load frequency control incorporated in multi-interconnected power system comprising wind power and photovoltaic (PV) plants is presented in this paper. It has been applied for optimizing the control parameters of the load frequency controller (LFC) of the multi-source power system (MSPS). The MSPS includes thermal, gas, and hydro power plants for energy generation. Moreover, the MSPS is integrated with renewable energy sources (RES). The MVO algorithm is applied to acquire the ideal parameters of the controller for controlling a single area and a multi-area MSPS integrated with RES.… More >

Energy Management Control Strategy for Renewable Energy System Based on Spotted Hyena Optimizer

    Hegazy Rezk1,2,*, Ahmed Fathy3,4, Mokhtar Aly5,6, Mohamed N. Ibrahim7,8,9

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.67, No.2, pp. 2271-2281, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.014590

Abstract Hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and other pollutants from the transportation sector harm human health in many ways. Fuel cell (FC) has been evolving rapidly over the past two decades due to its efficient mechanism to transform the chemical energy in hydrogen-rich compounds into electrical energy. The main drawback of the standalone FC is its slow dynamic response and its inability to supply rapid variations in the load demand. Therefore, adding energy storage systems is necessary. However, to manage and distribute the power-sharing among the hybrid proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell (FC), battery storage (BS), and supercapacitor (SC), an energy management… More >

A Novel Single Switch High Gain DC-DC Converter Topology for Renewable Energy Systems

    G. Indira Kishore1, M. Premkumar1,*, Ramesh Kumar Tripathi2, Chandra Sekhar Nalamati2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.2, pp. 199-209, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.014079

Abstract Renewable energy with sources such as photovoltaic (PV) or fuel cells can be utilized for the generation of electrical power. But these sources generate fewer voltage values and therefore require high gain converters to match with DC bus voltage in microgrids. These high gain converters can be implemented with switched capacitors to meet the required DC bus voltage. Switched capacitors operate in a series and parallel combination during switching operation and produce high static gain, limits reverse voltage that appears across the components. A novel converter is proposed that satisfies all the features such as high voltage gain, only one… More >

A Novel Polymorphic Topology with Hybrid Control Strategy Based LLC Resonant Converter for Ultra-Wide Input Voltage Range Applications

Chi Zhang, Yong Shi*, Xuwei Gui

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.2, pp. 341-361, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.014229

Abstract To realize effective utilization of renewable energy sources, a novel polymorphic topology with hybrid control strategy based LLC resonant converter was analyzed and designed in this paper. By combining the merits of a full bridge LLC resonant converter, three-level half bridge LLC resonant converter, and variable frequency control mode, the converter realizes an intelligent estimation of input voltage by automatically changing its internal circuit topology. Under this control strategy, different input voltages determine different operation modes. This is achieved in full bridge LLC mode when the input voltage is low. If the input voltage rises to a certain level, it… More >

Demand Responsive Market Decision-Makings and Electricity Pricing Scheme Design in Low-Carbon Energy System Environment

    Hongming Yang1,*, Qian Yu1, Xiao Huang1, Ben Niu2, Min Qi3

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.2, pp. 285-301, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.013734

Abstract The two-way interaction between smart grid and customers will continuously play an important role in enhancing the overall efficiency of the green and low-carbon electric power industry and properly accommodating intermittent renewable energy resources. Thus far, the existing electricity pricing mechanisms hardly match the technical properties of smart grid; neither can they facilitate increasing end users participating in the electricity market. In this paper, several relevant models and novel methods are proposed for pricing scheme design as well as to achieve optimal decision-makings for market participants, in which the mechanisms behind are compatible with demand response operation of end users… More >
