ALBERT with Knowledge Graph Encoder Utilizing Semantic Similarity for Commonsense Question Answering

    Byeongmin Choi1, YongHyun Lee1, Yeunwoong Kyung2, Eunchan Kim3,*

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.36, No.1, pp. 71-82, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.032783

Abstract Recently, pre-trained language representation models such as bidirectional encoder representations from transformers (BERT) have been performing well in commonsense question answering (CSQA). However, there is a problem that the models do not directly use explicit information of knowledge sources existing outside. To augment this, additional methods such as knowledge-aware graph network (KagNet) and multi-hop graph relation network (MHGRN) have been proposed. In this study, we propose to use the latest pre-trained language model a lite bidirectional encoder representations from transformers (ALBERT) with knowledge graph information extraction technique. We also propose to applying the novel method, schema graph expansion to recent… More >

Automating Transfer Credit Assessment-A Natural Language Processing-Based Approach

    Dhivya Chandrasekaran*, Vijay Mago

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.2, pp. 2257-2274, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.027236

Abstract Student mobility or academic mobility involves students moving between institutions during their post-secondary education, and one of the challenging tasks in this process is to assess the transfer credits to be offered to the incoming student. In general, this process involves domain experts comparing the learning outcomes of the courses, to decide on offering transfer credits to the incoming students. This manual implementation is not only labor-intensive but also influenced by undue bias and administrative complexity. The proposed research article focuses on identifying a model that exploits the advancements in the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP) to effectively automate… More >

BERT for Conversational Question Answering Systems Using Semantic Similarity Estimation

    Abdulaziz Al-Besher1, Kailash Kumar1, M. Sangeetha2,*, Tinashe Butsa3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.70, No.3, pp. 4763-4780, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.021033

Abstract Most of the questions from users lack the context needed to thoroughly understand the problem at hand, thus making the questions impossible to answer. Semantic Similarity Estimation is based on relating user’s questions to the context from previous Conversational Search Systems (CSS) to provide answers without requesting the user's context. It imposes constraints on the time needed to produce an answer for the user. The proposed model enables the use of contextual data associated with previous Conversational Searches (CS). While receiving a question in a new conversational search, the model determines the question that refers to more past CS. The… More >

Semantic Analysis Techniques using Twitter Datasets on Big Data: Comparative Analysis Study

Belal Abdullah Hezam Murshed1,∗, Hasib Daowd Esmail Al-ariki2,†, Suresha Mallappa3,‡

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.35, No.6, pp. 495-512, 2020, DOI:10.32604/csse.2020.35.495

Abstract This paper conducts a comprehensive review of various word and sentence semantic similarity techniques proposed in the literature. Corpus-based, Knowledge-based, and Feature-based are categorized under word semantic similarity techniques. String and set-based, Word Order-based Similarity, POSbased, Syntactic dependency-based are categorized as sentence semantic similarity techniques. Using these techniques, we propose a model for computing the overall accuracy of the twitter dataset. The proposed model has been tested on the following four measures: Atish’s measure, Li’s measure, Mihalcea’s measure with path similarity, and Mihalcea’s measure with Wu and Palmer’s (WuP) similarity. Finally, we evaluate the proposed method on three real-world twitter… More >

An E-Assessment Methodology Based on Artificial Intelligence Techniques to Determine Students’ Language Quality and Programming Assignments’ Plagiarism

    Farhan Ullah1,4,*, Abdullah Bajahzar2, Hamza Aldabbas3, Muhammad Farhan4, Hamad Naeem1, S. Sabahat H. Bukhari4,5, Kaleem Razzaq Malik6

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.26, No.1, pp. 169-180, 2020, DOI:10.31209/2019.100000138

Abstract This research aims to an electronic assessment (e-assessment) of students’ replies in response to the standard answer of teacher’s question to automate the assessment by WordNet semantic similarity. For this purpose, a new methodology for Semantic Similarity through WordNet Semantic Similarity Techniques (SS-WSST) has been proposed to calculate semantic similarity among teacher’ query and student’s reply. In the pilot study-1 42 words’ pairs extracted from 8 students’ replies, which marked by semantic similarity measures and compared with manually assigned teacher’s marks. The teacher is provided with 4 bins of the mark while our designed methodology provided an exact measure of… More >
