    Shafiqur Rehman1,*, Hilal H. Nuha2, Ali Al Shaikhi3, Satria Akbar2, Mohamed Mohandes1,3

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.4, pp. 775-789, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.026185

Abstract An accurate vertical wind speed (WS) data estimation is required to determine the potential for wind farm installation. In general, the vertical extrapolation of WS at different heights must consider different parameters from different locations, such as wind shear coefficient, roughness length, and atmospheric conditions. The novelty presented in this article is the introduction of two steps optimization for the Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN) model to estimate WS at different heights using measurements from lower heights. The first optimization of the RNN is performed to minimize a differentiable cost function, namely, mean squared error (MSE), using the Broyden-Fletcher-Goldfarb-Shanno algorithm. Secondly,… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.75, No.1, pp. 547-564, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.036025

Abstract Imbalanced data classification is one of the major problems in machine learning. This imbalanced dataset typically has significant differences in the number of data samples between its classes. In most cases, the performance of the machine learning algorithm such as Support Vector Machine (SVM) is affected when dealing with an imbalanced dataset. The classification accuracy is mostly skewed toward the majority class and poor results are exhibited in the prediction of minority-class samples. In this paper, a hybrid approach combining data pre-processing technique and SVM algorithm based on improved Simulated Annealing (SA) was proposed. Firstly, the data pre-processing technique which… More >

Abstract Team Formation (TF) is considered one of the most significant problems in computer science and optimization. TF is defined as forming the best team of experts in a social network to complete a task with least cost. Many real-world problems, such as task assignment, vehicle routing, nurse scheduling, resource allocation, and airline crew scheduling, are based on the TF problem. TF has been shown to be a Nondeterministic Polynomial time (NP) problem, and high-dimensional problem with several local optima that can be solved using efficient approximation algorithms. This paper proposes two improved swarm-based algorithms for solving team formation problem. The… More >

    R. Senthil Rama1, C. R. Edwin Selva Rex2, N. Herald Anantha Rufus3,*, J. Annrose4

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.35, No.2, pp. 2325-2336, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.028930

Abstract Any nonlinear behavior of the system is analyzed by a useful way of Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) technique. Reduced THD achieves lower peak current, higher efficiency and longer equipment life span. Simulated annealing (SA) is applied due to the effectiveness of locating solutions that are close to ideal and to challenge large-scale combinatorial optimization for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine (PMSM). The parameters of direct torque controllers (DTC) for the drive are automatically adjusted by the optimization algorithm. Advantages of the PI-Fuzzy-SA algorithm are retained when used together. It also improves the rate of system convergence. Speed response improvement and harmonic… More >

Employing Lexicalized Dependency Paths for Active Learning of Relation Extraction

    Huiyu Sun*, Ralph Grishman

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.34, No.3, pp. 1415-1423, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.030794

Abstract Active learning methods which present selected examples from the corpus for annotation provide more efficient learning of supervised relation extraction models, but they leave the developer in the unenviable role of a passive informant. To restore the developer’s proper role as a partner with the system, we must give the developer an ability to inspect the extraction model during development. We propose to make this possible through a representation based on lexicalized dependency paths (LDPs) coupled with an active learner for LDPs. We apply LDPs to both simulated and real active learning with ACE as evaluation and a year’s newswire… More >
