Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.13, pp. 1-12, 2019, DOI:10.5098/hmt.13.7

Abstract Natural convective heat transfer from two-sided diagonally inclined square plates having various thicknesses has been numerically and experimentally investigated. The aim of this work is to determine the influence of the plate thickness and diagonal inclination angle on the heat transfer rate for various flow regimes. The mean heat transfer rate was numerically obtained using ANSYS FLUENT© and experimentally determined using the Lumped Capacity Method. The results indicate that the plate thickness does not have a significant influence on the heat transfer rate while the diagonal inclination angle significantly influences the heat transfer rate especially at higher Rayleigh number values… More >

CFD Analysis of Spiral Flow Fields in Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells

Jian Yao, Fayi Yan*, Xuejian Pei

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.6, pp. 1425-1445, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.025282

Abstract Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) are largely used in various applications because of their pollution-free products and high energy conversion efficiency. In order to improve the related design, in the present work a new spiral flow field with a bypass is proposed. The reaction gas enters the flow field in the central path and diffuses in two directions through the flow channel and the bypass. The bypasses are arranged incrementally. The number of bypasses and the cross-section size of the bypasses are varied parametrically while a single-cell model of the PEMFC is used. The influence of the concentration of… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract In this work, the BEM is applied to obtain the numerical solutions for free vibration analysis of thick square plates with two edges simply supported or clamped, and the other two edges free. A formulation based on Reissner’s theory is used here, which includes the contribution of the additional translational inertia terms to the integral equation of displacements and internal forces. The boundary element method is used to discretize the space, where it is employed the static fundamental solution. In literature, the responses for the kind of problem addressed here are very important in the hydroelastic analysis of very large… More >

Analysis of rectangular square plates by the mixed Meshless Local Petrov-Galerkin (MLPG) approach

    T. Jarak1, J. Sorić1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.38, No.3, pp. 231-262, 2008, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2008.038.231

Abstract A new mixed meshless formulation based on the interpolation of both strains and displacements has been proposed for the analysis of plate deformation responses. Kinematics of a three dimensional solid is adopted and discretization is performed by the nodes located on the upper and lower plate surfaces. The governing equations are derived by employing the local Petrov-Galerkin approach. The approximation of all unknown field variables is carried out by using the same Moving Least Squares functions in the in-plane directions, while linear polynomials are applied in the transversal direction. The shear locking effect is efficiently minimized by interpolating the strain… More >
