    Baogang Chen1, Fenglin Miao2,*, Jing Yang1, Chen Qi2, Wenyan Ji1

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.2, pp. 541-555, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.028327

Abstract Energy storage systems (ESS) and permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSG) are speculated to be able to exhibit frequency regulation capabilities by adding differential and proportional control loops with different control objectives. The available PMSG kinetic energy and charging/discharging capacities of the ESS were restricted. To improve the inertia response and frequency control capability, we propose a short-term frequency support strategy for the ESS and PMSG. To this end, the weights were embedded in the control loops to adjust the participation of the differential and proportional controls based on the system frequency excursion. The effectiveness of the proposed control strategy was… More >

    Emmanuel Lule1,2,*, Chomora Mikeka3, Alexander Ngenzi4, Didacienne Mukanyiligira5

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.38, No.1, pp. 57-81, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.037988

Abstract Local markets in East Africa have been destroyed by raging fires, leading to the loss of life and property in the nearby communities. Electrical circuits, arson, and neglected charcoal stoves are the major causes of these fires. Previous methods, i.e., satellites, are expensive to maintain and cause unnecessary delays. Also, unit-smoke detectors are highly prone to false alerts. In this paper, an Interval Type-2 TSK fuzzy model for an intelligent lightweight fire intensity detection algorithm with decision-making in low-power devices is proposed using a sparse inference rules approach. A free open–source MATLAB/Simulink fuzzy toolbox integrated into MATLAB 2018a is used… More >

A Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithm Based Load Balancing Strategy for Health Monitoring Systems in Fog-Cloud

Hayder Makki Shakir, Jaber Karimpour*, Jafar Razmara

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.48, No.1, pp. 35-55, 2024, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.038545

Abstract As the volume of data and data-generating equipment in healthcare settings grows, so do issues like latency and inefficient processing inside health monitoring systems. The Internet of Things (IoT) has been used to create a wide variety of health monitoring systems. Most modern health monitoring solutions are based on cloud computing. However, large-scale deployment of latency-sensitive healthcare applications is hampered by the cloud’s design, which introduces significant delays during the processing of vast data volumes. By strategically positioning servers close to end users, fog computing mitigates latency issues and dramatically improves scaling on demand, resource accessibility, and security. In this… More >

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.93, No.1, pp. 1-13, 2024, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2023.045802

    Abstract

Aluminum (Al) toxicity is a considerable factor limiting crop yield and biomass in acidic soil. Tartary buckwheat growing in acidic soil may suffer from Al poisoning. Here, we investigated the influence of Al stress on the growth of tartary buckwheat seedling roots, and the alleviation of Al stress by silicon (Si), as has been demonstrated in many crops. Under Al stress, root growth (total root length, primary root length, root tips, root surface area, and root volume) was significantly inhibited, and Al and malondialdehyde (MDA) accumulated in the root tips. At the same time, catalase (CAT) and ascorbate peroxidase activities,… More >

Abstract The healthcare data requires accurate disease detection analysis, real-time monitoring, and advancements to ensure proper treatment for patients. Consequently, Machine Learning methods are widely utilized in Smart Healthcare Systems (SHS) to extract valuable features from heterogeneous and high-dimensional healthcare data for predicting various diseases and monitoring patient activities. These methods are employed across different domains that are susceptible to adversarial attacks, necessitating careful consideration. Hence, this paper proposes a crossover-based Multilayer Perceptron (CMLP) model. The collected samples are pre-processed and fed into the crossover-based multilayer perceptron neural network to detect adversarial attacks on the medical records of patients. Once an… More >

Prediction and Output Estimation of Pattern Moving in Non-Newtonian Mechanical Systems Based on Probability Density Evolution

    Cheng Han1,*, Zhengguang Xu1,2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.139, No.1, pp. 515-536, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.043464

Abstract A prediction framework based on the evolution of pattern motion probability density is proposed for the output prediction and estimation problem of non-Newtonian mechanical systems, assuming that the system satisfies the generalized Lipschitz condition. As a complex nonlinear system primarily governed by statistical laws rather than Newtonian mechanics, the output of non-Newtonian mechanics systems is difficult to describe through deterministic variables such as state variables, which poses difficulties in predicting and estimating the system’s output. In this article, the temporal variation of the system is described by constructing pattern category variables, which are non-deterministic variables. Since pattern category variables have… More >

Reliability-Based Model for Incomplete Preventive Replacement Maintenance of Photovoltaic Power Systems

Wei Chen, Ming Li*, Tingting Pei, Cunyu Sun, Huan Lei

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.1, pp. 125-144, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.042812

Abstract At present, the operation and maintenance of photovoltaic power generation systems mainly comprise regular maintenance, breakdown maintenance, and condition-based maintenance, which is very likely to lead to over- or under-repair of equipment. Therefore, a preventive maintenance and replacement strategy for PV power generation systems based on reliability as a constraint is proposed. First, a hybrid failure function with a decreasing service age factor and an increasing failure rate factor is introduced to describe the deterioration of PV power generation equipment, and the equipment is replaced when its reliability drops to the replacement threshold in the last cycle. Then, based on… More >
