    Experimental and Theoretical Study on the Flexural Behavior of Recycled Concrete Beams Reinforced with GFRP Bars

    Abstract This paper experimentally investigated the flexural behavior of reinforced recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) beams reinforced with glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) bars. A total of twelve beams were built and tested up to failure under four-point bending. The main parameters were reinforcement ratio (0.38%, 0.60%, and 1.17%), recycled aggregate replacement ratio (R = 0, 50%, and 100%) and longitudinal reinforcement types (GFRP and steel).     Experimental and Theoretical Study on Bonding Properties between Steel Bar and Bamboo Scrimber

    Abstract To further verify the feasibility of newly designed reinforced bamboo scrimber composite (RBSC) beams used in building construction, the bonding properties between steel bar and bamboo scrimber were investigated by anti-pulling tests. Results indicated that the anti-pulling mechanical properties were signifi- cantly correlated to the diameter, thread form and buried depth of steel bar, forming density of bamboo scrimber as well as the heat treatment of bamboo bundle. There were two failure modes for anti-pulling tests: the tensile fracture and pulling out of steel bar.     Abstract The energy of a spring with a well-distributed mass ms is theoretically studied in this paper. The solution of the wave equation is derived in detail, and then the kinetic energy and potential energy of the spring are studied with the wave equation, as well as the kinetic energy of the oscillating mass M. The kinetic energy and potential energy of the spring, and total energy are numerically simulated for different ratios ms/M with considering the spring’s mass, which makes the property of energy of the oscillating system understood easily.     Abstract The contact angle affects the life and accuracy of a linear gudieway. In this study, the factors which effect the angle of contact angle of linear guideway includes contact deformation of balls and grooves, downward load, ball diameter, number of load-carrying balls, number of load-carrying rows and conformity. A theoretical approach for finding the contact angle changed of linear gudieway is proposed by using Hertzian theory and Lundeberg/Palmgren approach.     Abstract Recently, a novel technique based on the wrinkling of a bilayer composite film resting on a compliant substrate was proposed to measure the elastic moduli of thin films. In this paper, this technique is studied via theoretical analysis and finite element simulations. We find that under an applied compressive strain, the composite system may exhibit various buckling modes, depending upon the applied compressive strain, geometric and material parameters of the system.
