Sensor Layout of Hoisting Machinery Vibration Monitoring Based on Harmony Genetic Search Algorithm

    Guansi Liu1,2, Keqin Ding2,*, Hui Jin1,*, Fangxiong Tang2, Li Chen2

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.16, No.2, pp. 145-161, 2022, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2022.022241

Abstract With the construction of automated docks, health monitoring technology as a parallel safety assurance technology for unmanned hoisting machinery has become a hot spot in the development of the industry. Hoisting machinery has a huge structure and numerous welded joints. The complexity and nonlinearity of the welded structure itself makes the structural failure parts random and difficult to arrange for monitoring sensors. In order to solve the problem of effectiveness and stability of the sensor arrangement method for monitoring the structure of hoisting machinery. Using the global and local search capabilities enhanced by the complementary search mechanism, a structural vibration… More >

Feature-Based Vibration Monitoring of a Hydraulic Brake System Using Machine Learning

    T. M. Alamelu Manghai1, R. Jegadeeshwaran2

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.11, No.2, pp. 149-167, 2017, DOI:10.3970/sdhm.2017.011.149

Abstract Hydraulic brakes in automobiles are an important control component used not only for the safety of the passenger but also for others moving on the road. Therefore, monitoring the condition of the brake components is inevitable. The brake elements can be monitored by studying the vibration characteristics obtained from the brake system using a proper signal processing technique through machine learning approaches. The vibration signals were captured using an accelerometer sensor under a various fault condition. The acquired vibration signals were processed for extracting meaningful information as features. The condition of the brake system can be predicted using a feature… More >

Delamination Identification for FRP Composites with Emphasis on Frequency-Based Vibration Monitoring-A Review

    Mengyue He1, Zhifang Zhang1,*, Karthik Ram Ramakrishnan2

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.12, No.4, pp. 213-256, 2018, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2018.05122

Abstract Fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) composite laminates are now commonly used in many structural applications, especially in the aerospace industry, where margins of safety are kept low in order to minimise weight. Timely detection and assessment of damage (in particular delaminations) in composite laminates are therefore critical, as they can cause loss of structural integrity affecting the safe operation of the composite structures. The current trend is towards implementation of structural health monitoring (SHM) systems which can monitor the structures in situ without down time. In this paper, first, the current available SHM techniques for delamination detection in FRP composites are… More >

Compact Modelling of Electric Arc Furnace Electrodes for Vibration Analysis, Detection and Suppression

    E. Brusa1, E. Franceschinis2, S. Morsut2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.42, No.2, pp. 75-106, 2009, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2009.042.075

Abstract Electrodes motion and positioning are critical issues of the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) operation in steelmaking process. During the melting process electrode is exposed to some impulsive and harmonic forces, superimposing to the structure's static loading. Unfortunately, structural vibration may interact with the electric arc regulation, because of the dynamic resonance. Instability in the furnace power supplying and dangerous electrode breakage may occur as a consequence of those dynamic effects. In this paper the dynamic behaviour of a real EAF structure is discussed and some numerical models are proposed. Available experimental data, collected by a monitoring system on a real… More >
