    Zejun Han1, Hongyuan Fang2,3,4,*, Juan Zhang5, Fuming Wang2,3,4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.59, No.3, pp. 853-871, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.03839

Abstract The pavement layered structures are composed of surface layer, road base and multi-layered soil foundation. They can be undermined over time by repeated vehicle loads. In this study, a hybrid numerical method which can evaluate the displacement responses of pavement structures under dynamic falling weight deflectometer (FWD) loads. The proposed method consists of two parts: (a) the dynamic stiffness matrices of the points at the surface in the frequency domain which is based on the domain-transformation and dual vector form equation, and (b) interpolates the dynamic stiffness matrices by a continues rational function of frequency. The mixed variables formulation (MVF)… More >

    Yuqing Yang1,2, Dequn Zhou1,*, Xiaojiang Yang1,3,4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.59, No.2, pp. 625-633, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.05246

Abstract Massive open online courses (MOOC) have recently gained worldwide attention in the field of education. The manner of MOOC provides a new option for learning various kinds of knowledge. A mass of data miming algorithms have been proposed to analyze the learner’s characteristics and classify the learners into different groups. However, most current algorithms mainly focus on the final grade of the learners, which may result in an improper classification. To overcome the shortages of the existing algorithms, a novel multi-feature weighting based K-means (MFWK-means) algorithm is proposed in this paper. Correlations between the widely used feature grade and other… More >

Green's First Identity Method for Boundary-Only Solution of Self-Weight in BEM Formulation for Thick Slabs

    Youssef F. Rashed1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.1, No.4, pp. 319-326, 2004, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2004.001.319

Abstract The present paper develops a new technique for treatment of self-weight for building slabs in the boundary element method (BEM). Due to the use of BEM in the analysis, all defined variables are presented on the slab boundary (mesh is defined only along the slab boundary). Self-weight, however, is usually defined over slab domain, hence domain discretisation is required, which spoils the main advantage of the BEM. In this paper a new method is presented to transform self-weight domain integrals to the boundary for such slabs. The proposed method is based on using the so-called Green's first identity. An Improved Memory Cache Management Study Based on Spark

    Suzhen Wang1, Yanpiao Zhang1, Lu Zhang1, Ning Cao2, *, Chaoyi Pang3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.56, No.3, pp. 415-431, 2018, DOI: 10.3970/cmc.2018.03716

Abstract Spark is a fast unified analysis engine for big data and machine learning, in which the memory is a crucial resource. Resilient Distribution Datasets (RDDs) are parallel data structures that allow users explicitly persist intermediate results in memory or on disk, and each one can be divided into several partitions. During task execution, Spark automatically monitors cache usage on each node. And when there is a RDD that needs to be stored in the cache where the space is insufficient, the system would drop out old data partitions in a least recently used (LRU) fashion to release more space. However,… More >

Weighted Sparse Image Classification Based on Low Rank Representation

    Qidi Wu1, Yibing Li1, Yun Lin1,*, Ruolin Zhou2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.56, No.1, pp. 91-105, 2018, DOI: 10.3970/cmc.2018.02771

Abstract The conventional sparse representation-based image classification usually codes the samples independently, which will ignore the correlation information existed in the data. Hence, if we can explore the correlation information hidden in the data, the classification result will be improved significantly. To this end, in this paper, a novel weighted supervised spare coding method is proposed to address the image classification problem. The proposed method firstly explores the structural information sufficiently hidden in the data based on the low rank representation. And then, it introduced the extracted structural information to a novel weighted sparse representation model to code the samples in… More >

Improved Particle Swarm Optimization for Selection of Shield Tunneling Parameter Values

    Gongyu Hou1, Zhedong Xu1,*, Xin Liu1, Cong Jin1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.118, No.2, pp. 317-337, 2019, DOI:10.31614/cmes.2019.04693

Abstract This article proposes an exponential adjustment inertia weight immune particle swarm optimization (EAIW-IPSO) to enhance the accuracy and reliability regarding the selection of shield tunneling parameter values. According to the iteration changes and the range of inertia weight in particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO), the inertia weight is adjusted by the form of exponential function. Meanwhile, the self-regulation mechanism of the immune system is combined with the PSO. 12 benchmark functions and the realistic cases of shield tunneling parameter value selection are utilized to demonstrate the feasibility and accuracy of the proposed EAIW-IPSO algorithm. Comparison with other improved PSO indicates… More >

    K. Kakuda1, Y. Hayashi1, J. Toyotani1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.103, No.4, pp. 229-249, 2014, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2014.103.229

Abstract In this paper, we present the application of the particle-based simulations to complicated fluid flow problem with free surfaces. The particle approach is based on the MPS (Moving Particle Simulation) method using hyperbolic-type weighting function to stabilize the spurious oscillatory solutions for solving the Poisson equation with respect to the pressure fields. The hyperbolic-type weighting function is constructed by differentiating the characteristic function based on neural network framework. The weighting function proposed herein is collaterally applied to the kernel function in the SPH-framework. Numerical results demonstrate the workability and validity of the present MPS approach through the dambreaking flow problem. More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.95, No.5, pp. 351-367, 2013, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2013.095.351

Abstract The application of a CPU/GPU-based particle method to dam-breaking incompressible viscous fluid flow problems is presented. The particle approach is based on the MPS (Moving Particle Semi-implicit) scheme using logarithmic weighting function to stabilize the spurious oscillatory solutions for solving the Poisson equation with respect to the pressure fields by using GPU-based SCG (Scaled Conjugate Gradient) method. The physics-based computer graphics for the results of three-dimensional simulation consist of the POV-Ray (Persistence of Vision Raytracer) rendering using marching cubes algorithm as polygonization. Numerical results demonstrate the workability and the validity of the present approach through the dam-breaking flow problem. More >

Numerical Integration with Constraints for Meshless Local Petrov-Galerkin Methods

    L. Sun1, G. Yang2, Q. Zhang3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.95, No.3, pp. 235-258, 2013, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2013.095.234

Abstract We propose numerical integration rules for meshless local Petrov- Galerkin methods (MLPG) employed to solve elliptic partial different equations (PDE) with Neumann boundary conditions. The integration rules are required to satisfy an integration constraint condition of Green’s formula type (GIC). GIC was first developed in [Babuska, Banerjee, Osborn, and Zhang (2009)] for Galerkin meshless method, and we will show in this paper that it has better features for MLPG due to flexibility of MLPG in choosing different trial and test function spaces. A general constructive algorithm is presented to design the integration rules satisfying GIC. We also present a useful… More >
