    M. Govindarajua , B. Gangab , A.K. Abdul Hakeema,*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.8, pp. 1-8, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.8.10

Abstract In this article, we analyzed the second law of thermodynamics applied to an electrically conducting incompressible water based nanofluid flow over a stretching sheet in the presence of thermal radiation and uniform heat generation/absorption both analytically and numerically. The basic boundary layer equations are non-linear PDEs which are converted into non-linear ODEs using scaling transformation. The dimensionless governing equations for this investigation are solved analytically using hypergeometric function and numerically by the fourth order Runge Kutta method with shooting iteration technique. The effects of partial slip parameter with the nanoparticle volume fraction, magnetic parameter, radiation parameter, uniform heat generation/absorption parameter,… More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.9, pp. 1-8, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.9.38

Abstract The effects of radiation absorption, first order chemical reaction and diffusion thermo on MHD free convective heat and mass transfer flow of a nanofluid past a semi infinite vertical flat plate are analyzed. The temperature and concentration at the surface are assumed to be oscillatory type. Four types of cubic nano particles which are uniform and size namely, Silver (Ag), Aluminum (Al2O3), Copper (Cu) and Titanium Oxide (TiO2) with water as a base fluid is taken into account. The set of ordinary differential equations are solved by using regular perturbation technique. The impact of various flow parameters on nanofluid velocity,… More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.9, pp. 1-9, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.9.33

Abstract Two-dimensional unsteady laminar double-diffusive free convective flow of a conducting fluid in a thermally insulated square enclosure except the left wall has been numerically studied in presence of heat generation/absorption. The Marker and Cell (MAC) method is employed for solving nonlinear momentum, energy and concentration equations and the numerical MATLAB code is validated with the previous study. The computed results are depicted graphically and discussed for various values of Rayleigh number (Ra), Hartmann number (Ha), Buoyancy ratio parameter (N), Lewis number (Le) and heat absorption/generation parameter (γ). It is observed that the rate of heat and mass transfer decreases with… More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.9, pp. 1-14, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.9.25

Abstract Present study concerns with the numerical investigation of MHD transient naturally convective and higher order chemically reactive Maxwell fluid with Nano-particle flow through a vertical porous plate with the effects of heat generation and radiation absorption. A boundary layer approximation is carried out to develop a flow model representing time dependent momentum, energy, and concentration equations. The governing model equations in partial differential equations (PDEs) form are transformed into a set of nonlinear ordinary differential equation (ODEs) by using non-similar technique. Explicit Finite Difference Method (EFDM) is employed by implementing an algorithm in Compaq Visual Fortran 6.6a to solve the… More >

Gauri Shanker Seth*, Arnab Bhattacharyya, Rajat Tripathi

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.9, pp. 1-12, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.9.21

Abstract A study on unsteady MHD natural convection flow of an optically thin, heat radiating, incompressible, viscous, chemically reactive, temperature dependent heat absorbing and electrically conducting fluid past an exponentially accelerated infinite vertical plate having ramped temperature, embedded in a porous medium is carried out, considering the effects of Hall current and rotation. Governing equations are non-dimensionalized and Laplace Transform Technique is used to find the exact solutions for non-dimensional velocity, temperature and concentration fields. The quantities of physical interest i.e. shear stress at the plate, rate of heat and mass transfers at the plate are also derived. Numerical results for… More >

A MOLECULAR DYNAMICS SIMULATION OF NANOSCALE WATER VAPOR ABSORPTION ON THE SURFACE OF LiBr AQUEOUS SOLUTION

    Hong Hua,*, J. N. Chunga,†

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.11, pp. 1-8, 2018, DOI:10.5098/hmt.11.24

Abstract A new architecture for absorption refrigeration systems (ARSs) that enables a significant enhancement of heat and mass transport processes has been proposed. This enhancement in performance is expected to translate into a significant reduction is size and cost of ARSs. The key innovation in the new approach is the use of ultrathin liquid films constrained by highly permeable nanostructured membranes. This approach enables far greater performance than those in the existing macroscale. For example, in the new absorber design, the thin film of LiBr solution is constrained by hydrophobic porous membranes and the inner wall of cooling water channel. The… More >

EFFECT OF ABSORBER TYPES OF CONVENTIONAL DISTILLERS ON THE AMOUNT OF DISTILLED WATER PRODUCTION

    M. Mirmanto*, M. Wirawan, I.M.A. Sayoga, S. Syahrul, M. Faisal, A. Abdullah

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.13, pp. 1-7, 2019, DOI:10.5098/hmt.13.10

Abstract Due to clean water crisis in the dry season in some places in Indonesia, experiments to find the best distiller to provide distilled water were performed. The long-term goal of this study is to create a distiller that is cheap, simple, easy to make, durable, low maintenance, but produces plenty of distilled water. Three identical conventional distillers with different absorbers had been tested for about 6 days in May 2019. These three distillers were used to evaporate and condense seawater to be distilled water. The absorbers types employed were type A, B, and C. The results show that the distiller… More >
