    Profiles of the Headspace Volatile Organic and Essential Oil Compounds from the Tunisian Cardaria draba (L.) Desv. and Its Leaf and Stem Epidermal Micromorphology

    Abstract In this work, we investigated aroma volatiles emanated by dry roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and fruits of Cardaria draba (L.) Desv. growing wild in Tunisia and its aerial part essential oils (EOs) composition. A total of 37 volatile organic compounds (96.7%–98.9%) were identified; 4 esters, 4 alcohols, 7 hydrocarbons, 12 aldehydes, 5 ketones, 1 lactone, 1 organosulfur compound, 2 organonitrogen compounds, and 1 acid. The hydrocarbons form the main group, representing 49.5%–84.6% of the total detected volatiles. The main constituent was 2,2,4,6,6-pentamethylheptane (44.5%–76.2%) reaching the highest relative percentages.     Abstract Conventional curing study of epoxy resin of (2E, 6E)-bis (4-hydroxybenzylidene)-4-methyl cyclohexanone (EMBHBC) was conducted at 140 0 /150 0 C by using 4,4’-diaminodiphenylmethane (DDM),4,4’-diaminodiphenylsulphone (DDS),4-4’-diaminodiphenyl ether (DDE), p-phenylenediamine (PDA), 1,2,3,6-tetrahydrophthalic anhydride(THPA), maleic anhydride (MAH) and pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA). The gel time for DDS, THPA and DDM hardeners are found considerably longer than those of DDE, PDA, MAH and PMDA systems indicated different reactivity towards curing of EMBHBC.     Durable Aroma Finishing of Wool Fabric with Microencapsulated Vetiver Essential Oil and Assessment of its Properties

    Abstract The present study was conducted to develop aroma wool fabric using microencapsulated vetiver essential oil without deteriorating the fabric properties. SEM analysis of the treated wool fabric depicted adhesion of numerous microcapsules of spherical shape and FTIR analysis indicated presence of different functional groups on the fabric. The aroma treatment improved most of the tested physical properties of wool fabric. Aroma treated fabric displayed good antimoth efficacy in terms of weight reduction (7.57%) and moth mortality (40%).     Abstract A new method of pretreatment of corn straw with Phanerochaete chrysosporium combined with pyrolysis was proposed to improve the quality of bio-oil. The characterization results demonstrated that microbial pretreatment was an effective method to decrease the lignin, which can achieve a maximum removal rate of 44.19%. Due to the destruction of biomass structure, the content of alkali metal and alkaline earth metal is reduced. Meanwhile, the depolymerized biomass structure created better pyrolysis conditions to promote the pyrolysis efficiency, increase the average decomposition rate of pyrolysis and reduce the residue.     Abstract Aroma and oxygen-barrier properties of chitosan-coated papers were measured in order to evaluate the potential of these materials as biodegradable materials for food packaging. Firstly, two chitosans (Chi- 244 and Chi-652) were studied according to their ultimate biodegradability. Chi-652 showed the best fi nal biodegradation rate and was then used for subsequent tests in association with papers. Then, oxygen-barrier and aroma-barrier properties of papers, Chi-652 fi lms and Chi-652-coated papers were investigated.     Abstract The formation process of aromatic hydrocarbon tar during the pyrolysis process of biomass components of cellulose and lignin was carried out by quantum chemical calculation based on density functional theory method B3LYP/6-31G++(d, p). 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural was chosen as the model compound of cellulose and hemicellulose, and syringaldehyde was chosen as the model compound of lignin.     Effect of Paclobutrazol Application on Plant Growth and Flower Quality in Herbaceous Peony

    Abstract Herbaceous peony (Paeonia lactiflora Pall.) is an important ornamental plant worldwide. In its natural state, P. lactiflora often manifests traits like rapidly elongating internodal growth, loose plant types, and soft inflorescence stems.
