NT-pro BNP—A marker for worsening respiratory status and mortality in infants and young children with pulmonary hypertension

    Shahnawaz M. Amdani1, Muhammad Umair M. Mian2, Ron L. Thomas3, Robert D. Ross4

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.13, No.4, pp. 499-505, 2018, DOI:10.1111/chd.12601

Abstract Aim: To evaluate predictors of morbidity and mortality in pediatric patients with pulmonary hypertension (PH), laboratory and echocardiographic measures of PH were analyzed.
Methods: A retrospective review of all infants and children< 2 years of age with PH from January 2011 to August 2016 was conducted. Correlations were determined using Spearman’s rank correlation coefficients. Differences in characteristics between survivors and nonsurvivors were analyzed and Kaplan-Meier survival curves were generated.
Results: Of 56 patients, the majority were extremely premature; of African American ethnicity; and had bronchopulmonary dysplasia. Patients who died were more likely to have underlying congenital heart disease; have a… More >

Applying ANN, ANFIS and LSSVM Models for Estimation of Acid Solvent Solubility in Supercritical CO2

    Amin Bemani1, Alireza Baghban2, Shahaboddin Shamshirband3, 4, *, Amir Mosavi5, 6, 7, Peter Csiba7, Annamaria R. Varkonyi-Koczy5, 7

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.63, No.3, pp. 1175-1204, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.07723

Abstract In the present work, a novel machine learning computational investigation is carried out to accurately predict the solubility of different acids in supercritical carbon dioxide. Four different machine learning algorithms of radial basis function, multi-layer perceptron (MLP), artificial neural networks (ANN), least squares support vector machine (LSSVM) and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) are used to model the solubility of different acids in carbon dioxide based on the temperature, pressure, hydrogen number, carbon number, molecular weight, and the dissociation constant of acid. To evaluate the proposed models, different graphical and statistical analyses, along with novel sensitivity analysis, are carried out.… More >

Sunflower-Like SrCo2S4@f-MWCNTs Hybrid Wrapped by Engineering N-Reduced Graphene Oxide for High Performance Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells

    Weiming Zhang1, Muhammad Wasim Khan1, Xueqin Zuo1, Qun Yang1, Huaibao Tang1,2, Shaowei Jin1,2, Guang Li1,2,3,*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.8, No.4, pp. 431-446, 2020, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2020.09158

Abstract A novel sunflower-like nanocomposite of SrCo2S4 nanoflakes and functionalized multiwall carbon nanotubes (f-MWCNTs) entanglement enveloped in nitrogen-reduced graphene oxide (N-RGO) is prepared by a cheap process. The unique entanglement structure of the material exhibits higher specific surface area, better electrical conductivity and other properties. This helps to reduce the transfer resistance in the photoelectric process of the battery and improve the electrochemical activity, thus increasing the photoelectric conversion efficiency of the battery. The new ternary cobalt-based sulfide material can replace platinum as the counter electrode (CE) material loaded on dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). DSSCs with SrCo2S4@f-MWCNTs@N-RGO (SCS@f-M@N-R) as CE material… More >

Numerical Study on Rock Breaking Mechanism of Supercritical CO2 Jet Based on Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics

    Xiaofeng Yang1, *, Yanhong Li1, Aiguo Nie1, Sheng Zhi2, Liyuan Liu3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.122, No.3, pp. 1141-1157, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2020.08538

Abstract Supercritical carbon dioxide (Sc-CO2) jet rock breaking is a nonlinear impact dynamics problem involving many factors. Considering the complexity of the physical properties of the Sc-CO2 jet and the mesh distortion problem in dealing with large deformation problems using the finite element method, the smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method is used to simulate and analyze the rock breaking process by Sc-CO2 jet based on the derivation of the jet velocity-density evolution mathematical model. The results indicate that there exisits an optimal rock breaking temperature by Sc-CO2. The volume and length of the rock fracture increase with the rising of the… More >

Carbon concentration in structures of Arctostaphylos pungens HBK: An alternative CO2 sink in forests

    Pompa-García M1, E Jurado2

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.84, No.2, pp. 385-389, 2015, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2015.84.385

Abstract Arctostaphylos pungens HBK is a dominant species with increasing abundance and distribution in chaparral ecosystems as a result of range management and, possibly, changes in climate. The value of this species for carbon (C) sequestration is unknown, and the standard 50% C out of total tree biomass is used as an approximate value. In this study, we aim to determine the C concentration of the primary components of A. pungens. The total C expressed as a percentage of biomass was determined with a Solids TOC Analyzer. We found the C concentration to vary among components. Leaves exhibited the highest C… More >

    Deli Gao1, Zengxin Zhao2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.26, No.2, pp. 157-166, 2011, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2011.026.157

Abstract The research on casing corrosion in sour environment by a synergism of sweet corrosion and H2S corrosion has become the basis of casing selection and casing string safety evaluation with more and more sour reservoirs containing high H2S concentration being developed. It is essential to scientifically utilize casing service ability and reasonably control production rate of gas well to achieve the effective and safe developing of gas resources during the safety period of casing service with a precise casing life prediction. Scanning electron microscopy and tensile testing were applied to investigate the corrosion of TP110TS tube steel in stimulant solution… More >

Individualized Design of the Ventilator Mask based on the Residual Concentration of CO2

    Zhiguo Zhang1,*, Zhenxiao Li2, Yifei Zhang3, Zhenze Wang4, Minzhou Luo1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.117, No.2, pp. 157-167, 2018, DOI:10.31614/cmes.2018.04067

Abstract OSAHS (Obstructive Sleep Apnea Hypopnea Syndrome) is a respiratory disease mainly characterized by limited and repeated pauses of breathing in sleep. Currently, the optimal treatment is to apply CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) ventilation on the upper airway of the patient through a household respiratory machine. However, if the ventilator mask is designed improperly, it might cause the residue and repeated inhalation of CO2, which will exert an adverse impact on the therapeutic effect. Present research numerically analyzed the CO2 transportation inside a commercial ventilator mask (Mirage SoftGel, ResMed, Australia) based on the reconstructed 3D numerical model of a volunteer's… More >
