Abstract The axisymmetric longitudinal wave propagation in a finite pre-strained compound (composite) cylinder is investigated within the scope of a piecewise homogeneous body model utilizing three-dimensional linearized theory wave propagation in an initially stressed body. The materials of the inner and outer cylinder are assumed to be compressible. The elasticity relations for those are given through the harmonic potential. The algorithm for constructing of the computer programmes and obtaining numerical results is discussed. The numerical results regarding the influences of the initial strains in the inner and outer cylinders on the wave dispersion are presented and analysed. These results are obtained… More >

Linear Stability Analysis of Time-Averaged Flow Past a Cylinder

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.27, No.1&2, pp. 63-78, 2008, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2008.027.063

Abstract Flow past a circular cylinder looses stability at a Reynolds number,Re~47. It has been shown, in the past, that the linear stability analysis (LSA) of the steady state solution can predict not only the critical Re, but also the non-dimensional frequency, St, of the associated instability. For larger Re the non-linear effects become important and the LSA of the steady-state flow does not predict the correct St. It is shown that, in general, the LSA applied to the time-averaged flow can result in useful information regarding its stability. This idea is applied to the Re = 100 flow past a… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.53, No.2, pp. 129-156, 2017, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2017.053.133

Abstract Employing Biot’s theory of wave propagation in liquid saturated porous media, the effect of rotation and magnetic field on wave propagation in a hollow poroelastic circular of infinite extent are investigated. An exact closed form solution is presented. General frequency equations for propagation of poroelastic cylinder are obtained when the boundaries are stress free. The frequencies are calculated for poroelastic cylinder for different values of magnetic field and rotation. Numerical results are given and illustrated graphically. The results indicate that the effect of rotation, and magnetic field are very pronounced. Such a model would be useful in large-scale parametric studies… More >
