    JIA SHAO1,2, CAN ZHANG2, YAONAN TANG2, AIQIN HE2, WEIPEI ZHU1,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.48, No.4, pp. 571-580, 2024, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2024.049092

Abstract Objective: Previous studies indicated that aberrant circular RNA (circRNA) expression affects gene expression regulatory networks, leading to the aberrant activation of tumor pathways and promoting tumor cell growth. However, the expression, clinical significance, and effects on cell propagation, invasion, and dissemination of circRNA_001896 in cervical cancer (CC) tissues remain unclear. Methods: The Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) datasets (GSE113696 and GSE102686) were used to examine differential circRNA expression in CC and adjacent tissues. The expression of circRNA_001896 was detected in 72 CC patients using fluorescence quantitative PCR. Correlation analysis with clinical pathological features was performed through COX multivariate and univariate analysis.… More >

    XIAOJIA HUANG1,#, CAILU SONG2,#, JINHUI ZHANG2, LEWEI ZHU3,*, HAILIN TANG2,*

    Oncology Research, Vol.32, No.2, pp. 241-249, 2024, DOI:10.32604/or.2023.046582

Abstract Breast cancer has surpassed lung cancer to become the most common malignancy worldwide. The incidence rate and mortality rate of breast cancer continue to rise, which leads to a great burden on public health. Circular RNAs (circRNAs), a new class of noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs), have been recognized as important oncogenes or suppressors in regulating cancer initiation and progression. In breast cancer, circRNAs have significant roles in tumorigenesis, recurrence and multidrug resistance that are mediated by various mechanisms. Therefore, circRNAs may serve as promising targets of therapeutic strategies for breast cancer management. This study reviews the most recent studies about the… More >

    Oncology Research, Vol.27, No.5, pp. 623-628, 2019, DOI:10.3727/096504018X15420734828058

Abstract Circular RNAs (circRNAs) represent a new class of noncoding RNAs that is involved in the development of cancer. However, little is known about their role in chemoresistance. In the present study, we found that hsa_circ_0003998 expression levels in lung adenocarcinoma (LAD) tissues and docetaxel-resistant cell lines (A549/DTX and H1299/DTX) were upregulated. Knockdown of hsa_circ_0003998 decreased chemoresistance, inhibited proliferation, and enhanced apoptosis in docetaxel-resistant LAD cells. Moreover, by using bioinformatics and luciferase reporter assays, we found that miR-326 was a direct target of hsa_circ_0003998. Functional analysis revealed that miR-326 mediated the effect of hsa_circ_0003998 on chemosensitivity. Our findings provide a molecular… More >

Navigating the genomic instability mine field of osteosarcoma to better understand implications of non-coding RNAs

KANIZ FATEMA, ZACHARY LARSON, JARED BARROTT*

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.10, pp. 2177-2193, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.020141

Abstract Osteosarcoma is one of the most genomically complex cancers and as result, it has been difficult to assign genomic aberrations that contribute to disease progression and patient outcome consistently across samples. One potential source for correlating osteosarcoma and genomic biomarkers is within the non-coding regions of RNA that are differentially expressed. However, it is unsurprising that a cancer classification that is fraught with genomic instability is likely to have numerous studies correlating non-coding RNA expression and function have been published on the subject. This review undertakes the formidable task of evaluating the published literature of non-coding RNAs in osteosarcoma. This… More >

Hypoxia-associated circular RNA RPPH1 modulates triple-negative breast cancer cell growth via the miR-1296-5p/TRIM14 axis

DILIXIATI JINSIHAN, DAN LI, MINGSHUAI ZHANG, JINCHUN FENG, QIAN ZHAO*

    BIOCELL, Vol.45, No.3, pp. 671-684, 2021, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2021.012519

Abstract Hypoxia affects the advancement, metastasis, and metabolism of breast cancer (BC). The circular RNA ribonuclease P RNA component H1 (circRPPH1) (has_circ_0000515) is implicated in tumor progression. Nevertheless, the regulatory mechanism related to circRPPH1 in hypoxia-mediated triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) progression is indistinct. The expression levels of circRPPH1, miR-1296-5p, tripartite motif-containing 14 (TRIM14) mRNA in tissue samples and cells were examined through quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Cell viability, migration, and invasion were determined with Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) or transwell assays. The levels of glucose consumption and lactate production were assessed via the Glucose Assay Kit or Lactate Assay… More >
