    Amthal Hakim1, Wael Slika1,*, Rawan Machmouchi1, Adel Elkordi2

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.17, No.3, pp. 175-194, 2023, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2022.023027 - 25 June 2023

Abstract Corrosion of reinforcing steel in concrete elements causes minor to major damage in different aspects. It may lead to spalling of concrete cover, reduction of section’s capacity and can alter the dynamic properties. For the dynamic properties, natural frequency is to be a reliable indicator of structural integrity that can be utilized in non-destructive corrosion assessment. Although the correlation between natural frequency and corrosion damage has been reflected in different experimental programs, few attempts have been made to investigate this relationship in forward modeling and/or structural health monitoring techniques. This can be attributed to the… More >

    Jinlong Shang*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.9, pp. 2315-2328, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.026742 - 16 May 2023

Abstract In this study, the durability of a new polymer carbon fiber-reinforced epoxy resin used to produce composite material in the aerospace field is investigated through analysis of the corrosion phenomena occurring at the microscopic scale, and the related infrared spectra and thermal properties. It is found that light and heat can contribute to the aging process. In particular, the longitudinal tensile strength displays a non-monotonic trend, i.e., it first increases and then decreases over time. By contrast, the longitudinal compressive and inter-laminar shear strengths do not show significant changes. It is also shown that the More >

Nurul Anis Athirah Ab Aziz*, Chin Wei Lai*, Boon Hoong Ong

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.6, pp. 2745-2770, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.025899 - 27 April 2023

Abstract Nowadays, corrosion is not only undesirable, but it also has a significant influence on the industrial sectors and technical innovations that have demand for metals. The global economic damage is expected to reach $2.5 trillion, equivalent to more than 3.4% of the world’s GDP in 2013. It is linked with significant financial harm, manufacturing pollution, and safety issues. An electrochemical process primarily induces metal corrosion at the metalelectrolyte interface region, caused by steel oxidation and the reduction of oxygen, protons, and water. Therefore, organic and epoxy coatings can be applied as protective coatings. Additionally, it… More > Graphic Abstract

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.7, pp. 1907-1923, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.025416 - 08 March 2023

Abstract When aluminum alloys are coupled with dissimilar materials, they often act as corrosion anodes and are suscepted to accelerated corrosion. Therefore, deepening our knowledge of such corrosion phenomena, related mechanisms, and elaborating new prediction model is of great theoretical and practical significance. In this paper, such mechanisms are explained from both macroscopic and microscopic points of view by considering several aspects such as the second phase particle type, grain size, and environmental ions. More specifically, different perspectives on such a problem are elaborated, which take into account: the properties of the coupling pair materials, geometrical… More >

    Liang Wang1, Baofeng Hou1, Yanming Fang3, Jintao Zhang2, Fajian Nie1,2,*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.7, pp. 1925-1937, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.025966 - 08 March 2023

Abstract Oxygen-reducing air flooding is a low-permeability reservoir recovery technology with safety and low-cost advantages. However, in the process of air injection and drive, carbon in the air is oxidized through the crude oil reservoir to generate CO2, and this can cause serious corrosion in the recovery well. In this study, experiments on the corrosion of J55 tubular steel in a fluid environment with coexisting O2 and CO2 in an autoclave are presented. In particular, a weight loss method and a 3D morphometer were used to determine the average and the local corrosion rate. The corrosion surface morphology More >

Ying Wang*, Zheng Yan, Yangyang Wu

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.136, No.2, pp. 1339-1370, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.025830 - 06 February 2023

Abstract In this paper, a numerical model of fretting fatigue analysis of cable wire and the fretting fatigue damage constitutive model considering the multi-axis effect were established, and the user material subroutine UMAT was written. Then, the constitutive model of wear morphology evolution of cable wire and the constitutive model of pitting evolution considering the mechanical-electrochemical effect were established, respectively. The corresponding subroutines UMESHMOTION_Wear and UMESHMOTION_Wear_Corrosion were written, and the fretting fatigue life was further predicted. The results show that the numerical simulation life obtained by the program in this paper has the same trend as… More > Graphic Abstract

A Model for the Determination of Semi-Circular Spot Corrosion Damage and Residual Strength in Oil Pipes

    Hongtao Liu1, Maoxian Xiong1, Bo Zhang2,*, Junfeng Xie1, Jinrui Deng1, MifengZhao2, Ruijing Jiang1, Yushan Zheng1

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.6, pp. 1709-1720, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.025513 - 30 January 2023

Abstract Pitting corrosion often occurs due to the presence of various corrosive substances, such as CO2 and H2S, in the pipe service environment. As a result of this process, the residual strength of oil pipes is reduced and this can compromise the integrity of the entire pipe string. In the present work, a model is introduced on the basis of the API579 standard to determine the so-called stress concentration coefficient. The model accounts for pitting corrosion shapes such as shallow semi-circles, semi-circles, and deep semi-circles. The relationship between the corrosion pit depth and opening diameter and the… More >

Abstract Gases containing sulfur oxides can cause corrosion and failure of bellows used as furnace blowers in high-temperature environments. In order to mitigate this issue, the behavior of an effective blast furnace blower has been examined in detail. Firstly, the Sereda corrosion model has been introduced to simulate the corrosion rate of the related bellows taking into account the effects of temperature and SO2 gas; such results have been compared with effective measurements; then, the average gas velocity in the pipeline and the von Mises stress distribution of the inner draft tube have been analyzed using a More >

    Yang Yang1,2,*, Pengfei Zheng3,4, Fanru Zeng5, Peng Xin6, Guoxi He1, Kexi Liao1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.134, No.1, pp. 267-291, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.020220 - 24 August 2022

Abstract Accurate prediction of the internal corrosion rates of oil and gas pipelines could be an effective way to prevent pipeline leaks. In this study, a proposed framework for predicting corrosion rates under a small sample of metal corrosion data in the laboratory was developed to provide a new perspective on how to solve the problem of pipeline corrosion under the condition of insufficient real samples. This approach employed the bagging algorithm to construct a strong learner by integrating several KNN learners. A total of 99 data were collected and split into training and test set More >
