miR-223-5p Suppresses Tumor Growth and Metastasis in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer by Targeting E2F8

Liyan Dou*1, Kaiyu Han†1, Mochao Xiao*, Fuzhen Lv

    Oncology Research, Vol.27, No.2, pp. 261-268, 2019, DOI:10.3727/096504018X15219188894056

Abstract miR-223-5p has been demonstrated to regulate the development and progression of various cancers, such as hepatocellular carcinoma, breast cancer, and gastric carcinoma. However, the role of miR-223-5p in nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) requires further investigation. In this study, we found that the expression of miR-223-5p was significantly downregulated in NSCLC tissues and cell lines. Moreover, the expression level of miR-223-5p is negatively correlated with the malignance of NSCLC. We found that overexpression of miR-223-5p remarkably suppressed the proliferation of NSCLC cells in vitro and in vivo. miR-223-5p overexpression also led to reduced migration and invasion in NSCLC cells. Mechanistically,… More >

E2-Induced Activation of the NLRP3 Inflammasome Triggers Pyroptosis and Inhibits Autophagy in HCC Cells

Qing Wei1, Rui Zhu1, Junying Zhu, Rongping Zhao, Min Li

    Oncology Research, Vol.27, No.7, pp. 827-834, 2019, DOI:10.3727/096504018X15462920753012

Abstract Emerging evidence suggests that 17β-estradiol (E2) and estrogen receptor (ER) signaling are protective against hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In our previous study, we showed that E2 suppressed the carcinogenesis and progression of HCC by targeting NLRP3 inflammasome activation, whereas the molecular mechanism by which the NLRP3 inflammasome initiated cancer cell death was not elucidated. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of NLRP3 inflammasome activation on cell death pathways and autophagy of HCC cells. First, we observed an increasing mortality in E2-treated HCC cells, and then apoptotic and pyroptotic cell death were both detected. The mortality of HCC cells was… More >

Changyu Liu*, Yongde Liao*, Sheng Fan*, Xiangning Fu*, Jing Xiong, Sheng Zhou, Man Zou, Jianmiao Wang§

    Oncology Research, Vol.27, No.3, pp. 283-292, 2019, DOI:10.3727/096504017X15035795904677

Abstract G-protein-coupled estrogen receptor (GPER) was found to promote non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) by estrogen, indicating the potential necessity of inhibiting GPER by a selective antagonist. This study was performed to elucidate the function of GPER-selective inhibitor G15 in NSCLC development. Cytoplasmic GPER (cGPER) and nuclear GPER (nGPER) were detected by immunohistochemical analysis in NSCLC samples. The relation of GPER and estrogen receptor (ER ) expression and correlation between GPER, ER , and clinical factors were analyzed. The effects of activating GPER and function of G15 were analyzed in the proliferation of A549 and H1793 cell lines and development of… More >

Abstract Sorafenib, a multityrosine kinase inhibitor, is a standard treatment for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but the clinical response to sorafenib is seriously limited by drug resistance. Programmed death ligand-1 (PD-L1) is one of the most important inhibitory molecules involved in tumor immune evasion. Recently, it has been reported that PD-L1 could play crucial roles in drug resistance of many kinds of cancers. However, the expression, function, and regulation of PD-L1 in sorafenib-resistant hepatoma cells remain unclear. In this study, we reported that PD-L1 was overexpressed in sorafenib-resistant hepatoma cells, and shRNA-mediated PD-L1 depletion attenuated drug resistance and suppressed the migration,… More >

Hengzhou Lin, Dahui Zuo, Jiabin He, Tao Ji, Jianzhong Wang, Taipeng Jiang

    Oncology Research, Vol.28, No.6, pp. 591-603, 2020, DOI:10.3727/096504020X15982623243955

Abstract The long noncoding RNA WEE2 antisense RNA 1 (WEE2-AS1) plays an oncogenic role in hepatocellular carcinoma and triple negative breast cancer progression. In this study, we investigated the expression and roles of WEE2-AS1 in glioblastoma (GBM). Furthermore, the molecular mechanisms behind the oncogenic actions of WEE2-AS1 in GBM cells were explored in detail. WEE2-AS1 expression was detected using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. The roles of WEE2-AS1 in GBM cells were evaluated by the cell counting kit-8 assay, flow cytometric analysis, Transwell cell migration and invasion assays, and tumor xenograft experiments. WEE2-AS1 expression was evidently enhanced in GBM tissues and… More >

Abstract Long noncoding RNA LAMTOR5 antisense RNA 1 (LAMTOR5-AS1) has been certified as a risk predictor and diagnostic biomarker of prostate cancer. However, the expression and exact roles of LAMTOR5-AS1 in nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remain unclear. Thus, we measured LAMTOR5-AS1 expression in NSCLC and gauged its clinical value. The detailed roles and downstream working mechanism of LAMTOR5-AS1 in NSCLC were comprehensively unraveled. qRT-PCR was applied to measure gene expression. Functionally, utilizing small interfering RNA, LAMTOR5-AS1 was ablated, and the functional alterations were addressed by means of different experiments. The targeting activities between LAMTOR5-AS1 and microRNA-506-3p (miR-506-3p) and between miR-506-3p… More >

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.41, No.2, pp. 625-644, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.020799

Abstract The healthcare IoT system is considered to be a significant and modern medical system. There is broad consensus that these systems will play a vital role in the achievement of economic growth in numerous growth countries. Among the major challenges preventing the fast and widespread adoption of such systems is the failure to maintain the data privacy of patients and the integrity of remote clinical diagnostics. Recently, the author proposed an end-to-end authentication scheme for healthcare IoT systems (E2EA), to provide a mutual authentication with a high data rate between the communication nodes of the healthcare IoT systems. Although the… More >

Abstract In the current circumstance, e-commerce through an online banking system plays a significant role. Customers may either buy goods from E-Commerce websites or use online banking to move money to other accounts. When a user participates in these types of behaviors, their sensitive information is sent to an untrustworthy network. As a consequence, when transmitting data from an internal browser to an external E-commerce web server using the cryptographic protocol SSL/TLS, the E-commerce web server ensures the security of the user’s data. The user should be pleased with the confidentiality, authentication, and authenticity properties of the SSL/TLS on both the… More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.45, No.4, pp. 933-942, 2021, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2021.014280

Abstract The present study aimed to clarify the role of SENEX in malignant cell proliferation in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). 22 DLBCL patients (6 newly diagnosed cases, 7 cases at complete remission, and 9 relapsed cases) were included in the study. Our results indicated that both SENEX gene and protein were significantly increased in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and tumor cells of relapsed DLBCL patients, accompanied by overexpression of p21, p16, and phosphorylated retinoblastoma (Rb). Silencing the SENEX gene in a DLBCL cell line caused a significant decrease in cell proliferation and inhibited cell cycle progression in the G1… More >
