    Abstract Orthodontic tooth movement is triggered by orthodontic force loading on the periodontal ligament and is achieved by alveolar bone remodeling, which is regulated by intimate crosstalk between osteoclastogenesis and osteoblast differentiation. Whether the communication between osteoclasts and osteoblasts is influenced by orthodontic compression stress requires further clarification. In this study, osteoclasts were differentiated for 10 days. On day 4 of differentiation, the number of pre-osteoclasts peaked, as determined by the increased expression of RANK and the number of multinucleated cells.     Abstract Objective: Pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma (extra-adrenal pheochromocytoma) are rare neuroendocrine tumors that arise from the neuroendocrine cells. Chronic hypoxia is known as a possible cause, and a strong link between cyanotic congenital heart disease and these tumors has been reported. However, reports of phechromocytoma/paraganglioma in Fontan patients were scarce. We herein report seven cases of phechromocytoma/paraganglioma after Fontan operation at a single tertiary center.
    Methods: We retrospectively reviewed medical records and imaging studies who diagnosed as phechromocytoma/paraganglioma after Fontan operation in Seoul National University Children’s Hospital.

    Abstract In a previous paper we described a pronounced increase of apoptotic nuclei in rat corpus luteum of pregnancy whose programmed chromatin degeneration was induced by the progesterone antagonist mifepristone. Those observations encouraged us to study the apoptotic nuclear membrane during pregnancy and after parturition and pup removal, by using a freeze-fracture technique which allows us to observe ‘en face’ the nuclear envelop and also permits nuclear pore counting.     Abstract Nonspecific acid phosphatases are a group of enzymes whose activity increases the availability of exogenous and endogenous orthophosphate either through extra- or intracellular hydrolysis of phosphate compounds. Our study demonstrates the activity of acid phosphatases in the filamentous freshwater alga Stigeoclonium tenue. These enzymes were detected following a cerium-based method in which cerium was used as an orthophosphate-capture reagent. In thalli from S. tenue from the natural environment, acid phosphatases were found in the longitudinal cell wall, plasmalemma, and vacuole.
