    Ankush Kapoor1, Pradeep Kumar2,*, Ranjan Mishra3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.1, pp. 341-361, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.028874

Abstract Frequency selective surfaces (FSSs) play an important role in wireless systems as these can be used as filters, in isolating the unwanted radiation, in microstrip patch antennas for improving the performance of these antennas and in other 5G applications. The analysis and design of the double concentric ring frequency selective surface (DCRFSS) is presented in this research. In the sub-6 GHz 5G FR1 spectrum, a computational synthesis technique for creating DCRFSS based spatial filters is proposed. The analytical tools presented in this study can be used to gain a better understanding of filtering processes and for constructing the spatial filters.… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.3, pp. 6169-6180, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.026343

Abstract This paper presents the design of wideband and high gain Frequency Selective Surface (FSS) loaded antenna for ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless applications requiring high-gain. The antenna consists of a monopole and an FSS reflector. Initially, a conventional rectangular monopole antenna is modified using slot and stub to achieve wide operational bandwidth and size reduction. This modified antenna shows 50% miniaturization compared to a primary rectangular monopole, having a wide impedance bandwidth of 3.6–11.8 GHz. Afterward, an FSS is constructed by the combination of circular and square ring structures. The FSS array consisting of 8 × 8-unit cells are integrated with the antenna as… More >

Detection of Low Sugar Concentration Solution Using Frequency Selective Surface (FSS)

    N. S. Ishak1, F. C. Seman2,*, N. Zainal3, N. A. Awang4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.2, pp. 2869-2882, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.022694

Abstract Sugar is important in daily food intake since it is used as food preservative and sweetener. Therefore, is important to analyze the influence of sugar on the spectroscopic properties of the sample. Terahertz spectroscopy is proven to be useful and an efficient method for sugar detection as well as for future food quality industry. However, the lack of detection sensitivity in Terahertz Spectroscopy has prevented it from being used in a widespread spectroscopic analysis technology. In this paper, Frequency Selective Surface (FSS) using the Terahertz Spectroscopy Time Domain Spectrum (THz-TDS) which operates at terahertz frequency range has been demonstrated for… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.70, No.1, pp. 1419-1436, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.019741

Abstract In this paper, a high gain and directional coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed ultra-wideband (UWB) planar antenna with a new frequency selective surface (FSS) unit cells design is proposed for UWB applications. The proposed UWB antenna was designed based on the Mercedes artistic-shaped planar (MAP) antenna. The antenna consisted of a circular ring embedded with three straight legs for antenna impedance bandwidth improvement. The modelled FSS used the integration of a two parallel conductive metallic patch with a circular loop structure. The FSS provided a UWB stopband filter response covering a bandwidth of 10.5 GHz, for frequencies from 2.2 to 12.7 GHz.… More >

Design and Implementation of T-Shaped Planar Antenna for MIMO Applications

    T. Prabhu1,*, S. Chenthur Pandian2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.69, No.2, pp. 2549-2562, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.018793

Abstract This paper proposes, demonstrates, and describes a basic T-shaped Multi-Input and Multi-Output (MIMO) antenna with a resonant frequency of 3.1 to 10.6 GHz. Compared with the U-shaped antenna, the mutual coupling is minimized by using a T-shaped patch antenna. The T-shaped patch antenna shapes filter properties are tested to achieve separation over the 3.1 to 10.6 GHz frequency range. The parametric analysis, including width, duration, and spacing, is designed in the MIMO applications for good isolation. On the FR4 substratum, the configuration of MIMO is simulated. The appropriate dielectric material ɛr = 4.4 is introduced using this contribution and application… More >

Design of a Compact Monopole Antenna for UWB Applications

Naeem Ahmad Jan1, Saad Hassan Kiani2, Daniyal Ali Sehrai2, Muhammad Rizwan Anjum3, Amjad Iqbal4, Mujeeb Abdullah5, Sunghwan Kim6,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.66, No.1, pp. 35-44, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.012800

Abstract In this paper, a low cost, highly efficient and low profile monopole antenna for ultra-wideband (UWB) applications is presented. A new inverted triangular-shape structure possessing meander lines is designed to achieve a wideband response and high efficiency. To design the proposed structure, three steps are utilized to achieve an UWB response. The bandwidth of the proposed antenna is improved with changing meander lines parameters, miniaturization of the ground width and optimization of the feeding line. The measured and simulated frequency band ranges from 3.2 to 12 GHz, while the radiation patterns are measured at 4, 5.3, 6 and 8 GHz… More >

    Shiv Narayan1, Shamala Joshi B1, Raveendranath U. Nair1, R M Jha1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.31, No.1, pp. 1-16, 2012, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2012.031.001

Abstract The electromagnetic design and performance analysis of dual/ multi-band metamaterial frequency selective surface (FSS) structures have been carried out for radome applications in microwave and millimeter wave frequency regimes. The proposed metamaterial FSS structure, consisting of cascaded MNG (mu-nega -tive) and DPS (double positive) layers, exhibits dual-band transmission responses at V-band and W-band. Excellent transmission efficiency (more than 95%) has been obtained over the frequency range 45.8-53.1 GHz at first resonance, and from 93.0-97.1 GHz at second resonance. The incorporation of additional DPS layer to the proposed metamaterial-FSS structure facilitates multiband bandpass characteristics at 30 GHz (in Ka-band), 64 GHz… More >

    Shiv Narayan1, R M Jha1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.37, No.2, pp. 97-108, 2013, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2013.037.097

Abstract A novel metamaterial based FSS (frequency selective surfaces) structure is presented in this paper for wideband airborne radome applications. The proposed metamaterial-FSS structure consists of three layers, where a DPS (double positive sign) layer is sandwiched between a MNG (μ-negative) and ENG (ε- negative) layer, exhibits very good bandpass characteristics inside the operational band along with excellent roll-off characteristics outside the band. The EM performance analysis of the proposed structure has been carried out using transmission line transfer matrix (TLTM) method, which shows excellent bandpass characteristics over a wide frequency range. The transmission efficiency is over 95% both at normal… More >
