    Essam H. Houssein1,*, Eman Saber1, Nagwan Abdel Samee2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.144, No.2, pp. 2445-2480, 2025, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2025.069184 - 31 August 2025

Abstract The diagnosis of Dry Eye Disease (DED), however, usually depends on clinical information and complex, high-dimensional datasets. To improve the performance of classification models, this paper proposes a Computer Aided Design (CAD) system that presents a new method for DED classification called (IAOO-PSO), which is a powerful Feature Selection technique (FS) that integrates with Opposition-Based Learning (OBL) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). We improve the speed of convergence with the PSO algorithm and the exploration with the IAOO algorithm. The IAOO is demonstrated to possess superior global optimization capabilities, as validated on the IEEE Congress on More >

Abstract In recent years, feature selection (FS) optimization of high-dimensional gene expression data has become one of the most promising approaches for cancer prediction and classification. This work reviews FS and classification methods that utilize evolutionary algorithms (EAs) for gene expression profiles in cancer or medical applications based on research motivations, challenges, and recommendations. Relevant studies were retrieved from four major academic databases–IEEE, Scopus, Springer, and ScienceDirect–using the keywords ‘cancer classification’, ‘optimization’, ‘FS’, and ‘gene expression profile’. A total of 67 papers were finally selected with key advancements identified as follows: (1) The majority of papers… More > Graphic Abstract

Feature Selection Using Artificial Immune Network: An Approach for Software Defect Prediction

    Bushra Mumtaz1, Summrina Kanwal2,*, Sultan Alamri2, Faiza Khan1

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.29, No.3, pp. 669-684, 2021, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2021.018405 - 01 July 2021

Abstract Software Defect Prediction (SDP) is a dynamic research field in the software industry. A quality software product results in customer satisfaction. However, the higher the number of user requirements, the more complex will be the software, with a correspondingly higher probability of failure. SDP is a challenging task requiring smart algorithms that can estimate the quality of a software component before it is handed over to the end-user. In this paper, we propose a hybrid approach to address this particular issue. Our approach combines the feature selection capability of the Optimized Artificial Immune Networks (Opt-aiNet) More >
