Abstract Background: Colorectal adenocarcinoma (COAD) is one of the most common gastrointestinal malignancies. There is a pressing need to recognize reliable biomarkers that can improve diagnostic accuracy, predict prognosis, and serve as effective molecular targets. Glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) is an important antioxidant protein. Evidence demonstrates that abnormal expression of GPX4 is related to cancer initiation and progression. However, the role of GPX4 in COAD remains unclear. Methods: We employed bioinformatics analysis and conducted subsequent validation of biological processes, including cell counting kit-8 assay (CCK-8), colony formation assay, reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR), 5-ethynyl-2′-deoxyuridine assay… More >

The role of glutathione peroxidase 4 in the progression, drug resistance, and targeted therapy of non-small cell lung cancer

    JIAHENG WEI1, LIANGMING ZHU2,*

    Oncology Research, Vol.33, No.4, pp. 863-872, 2025, DOI:10.32604/or.2024.054201 - 19 March 2025

Abstract Lung cancer is one of the main causes of cancer-related deaths globally, with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) being the most prevalent histological subtype of lung cancer. Glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) is a crucial antioxidant enzyme that plays a role in regulating ferroptosis. It is also involved in a wide variety of biological processes, such as tumor cell growth invasion, migration, and resistance to drugs. This study comprehensively examined the role of GPX4 in NSCLC and investigated the clinical feasibility of targeting GPX4 for NSCLC treatment. We discovered that GPX4 influences the progression of NSCLC More >

Evaluation of combined detection of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 and glutathione peroxidase 4 in primary hepatic carcinoma and preliminary exploration of pathogenesis

JIE DUAN, AIDONG GU*, WEI CHEN, CHANGHAO CHEN, FANGNAN SONG, FAXI CHEN, FANGFANG JIANG, HUIWEN XING

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.12, pp. 2609-2615, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.042472 - 27 December 2023

Abstract Objective: This study aims to analyze the clinical significance and mechanism of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (NRF2) and glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) in primary hepatic carcinoma (PHC). Methods: The expression of NRF2 and GPX4 in peripheral blood of patients with PHC was determined to analyze the diagnostic value of the two combined for PHC. The prognostic significance of NRF2 and GPX4 was evaluated by 3-year follow-up. Human liver epithelial cells THLE-2 and human hepatocellular carcinoma cells HepG2 were purchased, and the expression of NRF2 and GPX4 in the cells was determined. NRF2 and GPX4… More > Graphic Abstract
