Robust Fingerprint Construction Based on Multiple Path Loss Model (M-PLM) for Indoor Localization

Yun Fen Yong1,*, Chee Keong Tan1, Ian Kim Teck Tan2, Su Wei Tan1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.1, pp. 1801-1818, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.032710

Abstract A robust radio map is essential in implementing a fingerprint-based indoor positioning system (IPS). However, the offline site survey to manually construct the radio map is time-consuming and labour-intensive. Various interpolation techniques have been proposed to infer the virtual fingerprints to reduce the time and effort required for offline site surveys. This paper presents a novel fingerprint interpolator using a multi-path loss model (M-PLM) to create the virtual fingerprints from the collected sample data based on different signal paths from different access points (APs). Based on the historical signal data, the poor signal paths are identified using their standard deviations.… More >

Smart Garbage Bin Based on AIoT

    Wen-Tsai Sung1, Ihzany Vilia Devi1, Sung-Jung Hsiao2,*, Fathria Nurul Fadillah1

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.32, No.3, pp. 1387-1401, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.022828

Abstract Waste management and monitoring is a major concern in the context of the environment, and has a significant impact on human health. The concept of the Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) can help people in everyday tasks in life. This study proposes a smart trash bin to help solve the problem of waste management and monitoring. Traditional methods of garbage disposal require human labor, and pose a hazard to the worker. The proposed smart garbage bin can move itself by using ultrasonic sensors and a web camera, which serves as its “eyes.” Because the smart garbage bin is designed for… More >

Enhanced Fingerprinting Based Indoor Positioning Using Machine Learning

    Muhammad Waleed Pasha1, Mir Yasir Umair1, Alina Mirza1,*, Faizan Rao1, Abdul Wakeel1, Safia Akram1, Fazli Subhan2, Wazir Zada Khan3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.69, No.2, pp. 1631-1652, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.018205

Abstract Due to the inability of the Global Positioning System (GPS) signals to penetrate through surfaces like roofs, walls, and other objects in indoor environments, numerous alternative methods for user positioning have been presented. Amongst those, the Wi-Fi fingerprinting method has gained considerable interest in Indoor Positioning Systems (IPS) as the need for line-of-sight measurements is minimal, and it achieves better efficiency in even complex indoor environments. Offline and online are the two phases of the fingerprinting method. Many researchers have highlighted the problems in the offline phase as it deals with huge datasets and validation of Fingerprints without pre-processing of… More >

Position Vectors Based Efficient Indoor Positioning System

    Ayesha Javed1, Mir Yasir Umair1,*, Alina Mirza1, Abdul Wakeel1, Fazli Subhan2, Wazir Zada Khan3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.67, No.2, pp. 1781-1799, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.015229

Abstract With the advent and advancements in the wireless technologies, Wi-Fi fingerprinting-based Indoor Positioning System (IPS) has become one of the most promising solutions for localization in indoor environments. Unlike the outdoor environment, the lack of line-of-sight propagation in an indoor environment keeps the interest of the researchers to develop efficient and precise positioning systems that can later be incorporated in numerous applications involving Internet of Things (IoTs) and green computing. In this paper, we have proposed a technique that combines the capabilities of multiple algorithms to overcome the complexities experienced indoors. Initially, in the database development phase, Motley Kennan propagation… More >
