    R. Rajakumari1,*, L. Kalaivani2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.32, No.2, pp. 1089-1107, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.020178

Abstract Breast cancer is a commonly diagnosed disease in women. Early detection, a personalized treatment approach, and better understanding are necessary for cancer patients to survive. In this work, a deep learning network and traditional convolution network were both employed with the Digital Database for Screening Mammography (DDSM) dataset. Breast cancer images were subjected to background removal followed by Wiener filtering and a contrast limited histogram equalization (CLAHE) filter for image restoration. Wavelet packet decomposition (WPD) using the Daubechies wavelet level 3 (db3) was employed to improve the smoothness of the images. For breast cancer recognition, these preprocessed images were first… More >

    P. Siva Satya Sreedhar1,*, N. Nandhagopal2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.31, No.3, pp. 1331-1344, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.020918

Abstract The current trend in Image Fusion (IF) algorithms concentrate on the fusion process alone. However, pay less attention to critical issues such as the similarity between the two input images, features that participate in the Image Fusion. This paper addresses these two issues by deliberately attempting a new Image Fusion framework with Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). CNN has features like pre-training and similarity score, but functionalities are limited. A CNN model with classification prediction and similarity estimation are introduced as Classification Similarity Networks (CSN) to address these issues. ResNet50 and GoogLeNet are modified as the classification branches of CSN v1,… More >

Abstract The recent COVID-19 pandemic has had lasting and severe impacts on social gatherings and interaction among people. Local administrative bodies enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) to combat the spread of COVID-19, with mandatory precautionary measures including use of face masks at social assembly points. In addition, the World Health Organization (WHO) strongly recommends people wear a face mask as a shield against the virus. The manual inspection of a large number of people for face mask enforcement is a challenge for law enforcement agencies. This work proposes an automatic face mask detection solution using an enhanced lightweight deep learning model.… More >

    Min-Jun Kim1, Seng-Phil Hong2, Mingoo Kang1, Jeongwook Seo1,*

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.30, No.3, pp. 743-753, 2021, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2021.019329

Abstract In this paper, we present an oneM2M-compliant system including an artificial intelligence of things (AIoT) edge device whose principal function is to estimate human poses by using two PoseNet models built on MobileNet v1 and ResNet-50 backbone architectures. Although MobileNet v1 is generally known to be much faster but less accurate than ResNet50, it is necessary to analyze the performances of whole PoseNet models carefully and select one of them suitable for the AIoT edge device. For this reason, we first investigate the computational complexity of the models about their neural network layers and parameters and then compare their performances… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.128, No.3, pp. 1231-1245, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2021.016866

Abstract In the network security field, the network intrusion detection system (NIDS) is considered one of the critical issues in the detection accuracy and missed detection rate. In this paper, a method of two-step network intrusion detection on the basis of GoogLeNet Inception and deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) models is proposed. The proposed method used the GoogLeNet Inception model to identify the network packets’ binary problem. Subsequently, the characteristics of the packets’ raw data and the traffic features are extracted. The CNNs model is also used to identify the multiclass intrusions by the network packets’ features. In the experimental results,… More >

    Mohammed Faisal1,*, Fahad Albogamy2, Hebah ElGibreen3, Mohammed Algabri3, Syed Ahad M. Alvi1, Mansour Alsulaiman3

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.29, No.3, pp. 649-667, 2021, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2021.017898

Abstract COVID-19 was first discovered in Wuhan, China, in December 2019 and has since spread worldwide. An automated and fast diagnosis system needs to be developed for early and effective COVID-19 diagnosis. Hence, we propose two- and three-classifier diagnosis systems for classifying COVID-19 cases using transfer-learning techniques. These systems can classify X-ray images into three categories: healthy, COVID-19, and pneumonia cases. We used two X-ray image datasets (DATASET-1 and DATASET-2) collected from state-of-the-art studies and train the systems using deep learning architectures, such as VGG-19, NASNet, and MobileNet2, on these datasets. According to the validation and testing results, our proposed diagnosis… More >

An Optimized Deep Residual Network with a Depth Concatenated Block for Handwritten Characters Classification

    Gibrael Abosamra*, Hadi Oqaibi

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.68, No.1, pp. 1-28, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.015318

Abstract Even though much advancements have been achieved with regards to the recognition of handwritten characters, researchers still face difficulties with the handwritten character recognition problem, especially with the advent of new datasets like the Extended Modified National Institute of Standards and Technology dataset (EMNIST). The EMNIST dataset represents a challenge for both machine-learning and deep-learning techniques due to inter-class similarity and intra-class variability. Inter-class similarity exists because of the similarity between the shapes of certain characters in the dataset. The presence of intra-class variability is mainly due to different shapes written by different writers for the same character. In this… More >

    Jiancheng Zou1, Na Zhu1,*, Bailin Ge1, Don Hong2

    Journal of New Media, Vol.3, No.1, pp. 1-10, 2021, DOI:10.32604/jnm.2021.017763

Abstract We propose an improved a single-shot detector (SSD) algorithm to detect falls of the elderly. The VGG16 network part of the SSD network is replaced with the MobilenetV2 network. At the same time, we change the infrastructure of MobilenetV2 network, the three layers that were not downsampled at the end were removed, which can make the model structure simpler and faster to detect. The complete Intersection-over-Union (CIoU) loss function is introduced to get a good regression of the target borders that have different sizes and different proportions. We use Feature Pyramid Network (FPN) for upsampling, it can fuse low-level feature… More >
