    Yu-Liang Zhanga,* , Dong-Yang Wub, Hai-Bing Caic, Can-Fei Wangc, Fei-Wuc, Shao-Han Zhengd

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.20, pp. 1-5, 2023, DOI:10.5098/hmt.20.11

Abstract In this paper, based on the Mixture model, the numerical computations of the internal flow field in a sewage pump are carried out. Through numerical simulation, the turbulence flow characteristics in the sewage pump are obtained. Results show that when the particle diameter is 0.10 mm, the solid-phase concentration on the volute surface is high, and the wear is more severe. When the particle diameters are 0.15 mm and 0.20 mm, the solid-phase concentration on the volute surface is significantly higher, especially when the over-current cross-section enlarges constantly. Abstract Reasonable treatment and utilization of waste residuals discharged during the production of ready-mixed concrete is an important problem in the cement industry. In this study, a composite admixture was prepared by using ready-mixed concrete waste residuals, furnace slag, and water granulated slag. The grinding characteristics of such material were investigated. Moreover, the effect of such admixture on cement hydration and pore structure was analyzed by X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric-differential scanning calorimetry, scanning electron microcopy and mercury intrusion porosimetry. As shown by the results: The grinding characteristics of the waste residuals can be improved significantly by mixing them with furnace slag and… More > Graphic Abstract

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.36, No.3, pp. 3309-3323, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.035051

Abstract Audio signal separation is an open and challenging issue in the classical “Cocktail Party Problem”. Especially in a reverberation environment, the separation of mixed signals is more difficult separated due to the influence of reverberation and echo. To solve the problem, we propose a determined reverberant blind source separation algorithm. The main innovation of the algorithm focuses on the estimation of the mixing matrix. A new cost function is built to obtain the accurate demixing matrix, which shows the gap between the prediction and the actual data. Then, the update rule of the demixing matrix is derived using Newton gradient… More >

On the Use of Recycled Asphalt and Trinidad Lake Asphalt (TLA) for the Preparation of High Modulus Asphalt Concrete

    Chao Li1,*, Guodong Zeng1, Yang Fang1, Hongming Huang2

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.7, pp. 1939-1950, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.026103

Abstract Rutting of asphalt pavement occurs earlier and is more serious under the increasingly heavy traffic load conditions that can be found in subtropical monsoon climate regions. High modulus asphalt concrete (HMAC) with excellent anti-rutting and anti-fatigue properties is generally used to mitigate this issue. Given the relatively high cost of the additives used in this type of asphalt, in this study the feasibility of using recycled asphalt mixture (RAP) and Trinidad lake asphalt (TLA) for the preparation of HMAC is considered. The mineral composition of the RAP is first analyzed, then the TLA modified asphalt with different levels of RAP… More >

Influence of Hydrodynamic Pore Pressure Damage on the Performance of Hot-Mixed Renewable Asphalt Mixture

    Guodong Zeng1, Chao Li1,*, Yang Fang1, Hongming Huang1,2, Hao Li1,3, Yishen Xu1

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.5, pp. 2453-2467, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.025871

Abstract For evaluating the water stability of hot-mixed renewable asphalt mixture (HRM), the traditional methods are all tested under still water conditions. Except for damage in still water conditions, the hydrodynamic pore pressure generated by the tire driving on the surface water has a great impact. Thus, the RAP contents of the HRMs were designed at 0%, 30%, 45% and 60% with AC-25 gradation. Then, the self-designed evaluation methods of water stability and dynamic modulus were studied. Finally, the mechanism of the influence of hydrodynamic pore pressure damage on HRMs was studied. The results show that the water stability of HRM… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.135, No.2, pp. 1559-1570, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.023217

Abstract Convolutional neural networks (CNN) based on U-shaped structures and skip connections play a pivotal role in various image segmentation tasks. Recently, Transformer starts to lead new trends in the image segmentation task. Transformer layer can construct the relationship between all pixels, and the two parties can complement each other well. On the basis of these characteristics, we try to combine Transformer pipeline and convolutional neural network pipeline to gain the advantages of both. The image is put into the U-shaped encoder-decoder architecture based on empirical combination of self-attention and convolution, in which skip connections are utilized for local-global semantic feature… More >

Exergy Analysis of Organic Rankine Cycles with Zeotropic Working Fluids

Antonio Mariani, Davide Laiso, Biagio Morrone*, Andrea Unich

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.3, pp. 593-601, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.022524

Abstract Waste heat recovery is one of the possible solutions to improve the efficiency of internal combustion engines. Instead of wasting the exhaust stream of an energy conversion system into the environment, its residual energy content can be usefully recovered, for example in Organic Rankine Cycles (ORC). This technology has been largely consolidated in stationary power plants but not yet for mobile applications, such as road transport, due to the limitations in the layout and to the constraints on the size and weight of the ORC system. An ORC system installed on the exhaust line of a bus powered by a… More > Graphic Abstract

Robust Frequency Estimation Under Additive Symmetric α-Stable Gaussian Mixture Noise

    Peng Wang1, Yulu Tian2, Bolong Men1,*, Hailong Song1

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.36, No.1, pp. 83-95, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.027602

Abstract Here the estimating problem of a single sinusoidal signal in the additive symmetric α-stable Gaussian (ASαSG) noise is investigated. The ASαSG noise here is expressed as the additive of a Gaussian noise and a symmetric α-stable distributed variable. As the probability density function (PDF) of the ASαSG is complicated, traditional estimators cannot provide optimum estimates. Based on the Metropolis-Hastings (M-H) sampling scheme, a robust frequency estimator is proposed for ASαSG noise. Moreover, to accelerate the convergence rate of the developed algorithm, a new criterion of reconstructing the proposal covariance is derived, whose main idea is updating the proposal variance using… More >

    Jure Žigon1,*, Vit Šeda2, Petr Čermák2, Milan Šernek1

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.2, pp. 991-1001, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.023584

Abstract Various crosslinking agents can be added to the formulations of natural-based adhesives for wood bonding in order to achieve better durability and higher strength of the formed joints. In the present study, the effect of hexamethylenediamine (HMDA) addition on the performance of liquefied wood (LW) adhesive for wood bonding is investigated. Differential scanning calorimetry showed the improved thermal stability and crosslinking of the LW adhesive with HMDA. The intensified presence of amide linkages (C–N bonds) was found in LW+HMDA with attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Analysis of the bonded joints using an automated bonding evaluation system showed that… More >
