Abstract This work presents multi-fidelity multi-objective infill-sampling surrogate-assisted optimization for airfoil shape optimization. The optimization problem is posed to maximize the lift and drag coefficient ratio subject to airfoil geometry constraints. Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) and XFoil tools are used for high and low-fidelity simulations of the airfoil to find the real objective function value. A special multi-objective sub-optimization problem is proposed for multiple points infill sampling exploration to improve the surrogate model constructed. To validate and further assess the proposed methods, a conventional surrogate-assisted optimization method and an infill sampling surrogate-assisted optimization criterion are applied with multi-fidelity simulation, while their… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract A four-element compact dual-band patch antenna having a common ground plane operating at 28/38 GHz is proposed for millimeter-wave communication systems in this paper. The multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna geometry consists of a slotted ellipse enclosed within a hollow circle which is orthogonally rotated with a connected partial ground at the back. The overall size of the four elements MIMO antenna is 2.24λ × 2.24λ (at 27.12 GHz). The prototype of four-element MIMO resonator is designed and printed using Rogers RT Duroid 5880 with εr = 2.2 and loss tangent = 0.0009 and having a thickness of 0.8 mm. It covers… More >

    K. Venkatadria,*, S. Gouse Mohiddina , M. Suryanarayana Reddyb

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.9, pp. 1-9, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.9.33

Abstract Two-dimensional unsteady laminar double-diffusive free convective flow of a conducting fluid in a thermally insulated square enclosure except the left wall has been numerically studied in presence of heat generation/absorption. The Marker and Cell (MAC) method is employed for solving nonlinear momentum, energy and concentration equations and the numerical MATLAB code is validated with the previous study. The computed results are depicted graphically and discussed for various values of Rayleigh number (Ra), Hartmann number (Ha), Buoyancy ratio parameter (N), Lewis number (Le) and heat absorption/generation parameter (γ). It is observed that the rate of heat and mass transfer decreases with… More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.9, pp. 1-11, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.9.17

Abstract This article investigates the theoretical steady magneto hydrodynamic heat flow of incompressible non-Newtonian Tangent Hyperbolic fluid flow over a sphere with Soret and Dufour effects. The governing coupled non-linear partial differential equations are reduced to non-similarity boundary layer equations using appropriate transformation and then solved using the finite difference Keller-Box method. The effect of various flow parameters on the velocity, temperature and concentration are analyzed and presented graphically. More >

Aida Haryati Jamadi1, Nadlene Razali1,3,*, Sivakumar Dhar Malingam1,3, Mastura Mohammad Taha2,3

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.8, pp. 3261-3276, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.028280

Abstract Natural fibre as a reinforcing agent has been widely used in many industrial applications. Nevertheless, several factors need to be considered, such as the size and weight percentage of the fibre used in binding. Using fused deposition modelling (FDM), this factor was investigated by varying the size of natural fibre as the responding variable with a fixed weight percentage of kenaf fibre. The process of modifying the natural fibre in terms of size might increase the dispersion of kenaf fibre in the polymer matrix and increase the adhesion bonding between the fibre and matrix of composites, subsequently improving the interfacial… More >

TRANSIENT MODELLING OF AN EV INVERTER HEAT SINK WITH PCM

    B. Orra,* , R. Singha, T. L. Phana , M. Mochizukib

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.13, pp. 1-6, 2019, DOI:10.5098/hmt.13.1

Abstract One of the problems with cooling an IGBT inverter chip is that its heat generation is not constant. These chips tend to produce heat in pulses which results in high peak chip temperatures. Transient modelling is required to determine the suitability of a heat sink and to ensure the max peak temperature is not exceeded. This paper demonstrates a method of transient thermal analysis using a thermal resistance / capacitor network. A sample heat sink was modelled and then experimentally tested to validate the model. A novel method of modelling phase change materials (PCM) using the thermal resistance / capacitor… More >

    Revue Internationale de Géomatique, Vol.30, No.2, pp. 155-179, 2020, DOI:10.3166/rig.2021.00110

Abstract Air pollution and road traffic noise are two important environmental nuisances that could be harmful to the health and well-being of urban populations. In Mexico City, as in many North American cities, there has been an upsurge in bicycle ridership. However, Mexico City is also well known for having high levels of noise and air pollution. The purpose of this study is threefold: 1) evaluate cyclists’ exposure to air pollution (nitrogen dioxide) and road traffic noise; 2) identify local factors that increase or reduce cyclists’ exposure, in paying particular attention to the type of road and bicycle path or lane… More >

Modelling Dry Port Systems in the Framework of Inland Waterway Container Terminals

    Milovan Kovač1, Snežana Tadić1, Mladen Krstić1,*, Violeta Roso2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.137, No.1, pp. 1019-1046, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.027909

Abstract Overcoming the global sustainability challenges of logistics requires applying solutions that minimize the negative effects of logistics activities. The most efficient way of doing so is through intermodal transportation (IT). Current IT systems rely mostly on road, rail, and sea transport, not inland waterway transport. Developing dry port (DP) terminals has been proven as a sustainable means of promoting and utilizing IT in the hinterland of seaport container terminals. Conventional DP systems consolidate container flows from/to seaports and integrate road and rail transportation modes in the hinterland which improves the sustainability of the whole logistics system. In this article, to… More >
