    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.61, No.1, pp. 119-128, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.05274

Abstract For enhancing the control effectiveness, we firstly design a fuzzy logic based sliding mode controller (FSMC) for nonlinear crane systems. On basis of overhead crane dynamic characteristic, the sliding mode function with regard to trolley position and payload angle. Additionally, in order to eliminate the chattering problem of sliding mode control, the fuzzy logic theory is adopted to soften the control performance. Moreover, aiming at the FSMC parameter setting problem, a DE algorithm based optimization scheme is proposed for enhancing the control performance. Finally, by implementing the computer simulation, the DE based FSMC can effectively tackle the overhead crane sway… More >

    Ying Xiao1,2, Haomiao Zhou1, Xiaofan Gou2,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.54, No.3, pp. 209-228, 2018, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2018.054.209

Abstract In order to predict the performance of magnetostrictive smart material and push its applications in engineering, it is necessary to build the constitutive relations for the magnetostrictive material Galfenol. For Galfenol rods under the action of the pre-stress and magnetic field along the axial direction, the one-dimensional nonlinear magneto-mechanical coupling constitutive model is proposed based on the elastic Gibbs free energy, where the Taylor expansion of the elastic Gibbs free energy is made to obtain the polynomial forms. And then the constitutive relations are derived by replacing the polynomial forms with the proper transcendental functions based on the microscopic magneto-mechanical… More >

    Zihao Yang1, Liang Ma2, Qiang Ma3, Junzhi Cui1,4, Yufeng Nie1, Hao Dong1, Xiaohong An5

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.53, No.3, pp. 219-248, 2017, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2017.053.235

Abstract This paper reports a multiscale analysis method to predict the thermo-mechanical coupling performance of composite structures with quasi-periodic properties. In these material structures, the configurations are periodic and the material coefficients are quasi-periodic, i.e., they depend not only on the microscale information but also on the macro location. Also, a mutual interaction between displacement and temperature fields is considered in the problem, which is our particular interest in this study. The multiscale asymptotic expansions of the temperature and displacement fields are constructed and associated error estimation in nearly pointwise sense is presented. Then, a finite element-difference algorithm based on the… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.48, No.1, pp. 57-75, 2015, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2015.048.057

Abstract In this paper, the mechanical model to analyze the riser lateral vibration displacement and stress distribution in installation has been established via variational approach and the principle of minimum potential energy. In this model, the influence of vessel motion on riser lateral vibration has been taken into consideration. The specific expression of lateral vibration has also been figured out according to the boundary conditions and initial conditions. At last, the variations of riser maximum lateral displacement and stress distribution on water depth (WD), wave height, wave period, riser OD, BOPS weight have been discussed. More >

    Huan Wang1, Weifeng Yuan2,3, Fei Jia2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.47, No.1, pp. 31-43, 2015, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2015.047.031

Abstract Compared with dealing with a linear system, solving a nonlinear system equation in numerical simulation requires generally more CPU time since iterative approach is usually used in the latter. To cut down the computing cost, a direct way is to reduce the degree of freedoms (DOF) of the problem under investigation. However, this kind of treatment may result in poorer accuracy. In this manuscript, a macro element method is proposed to improve computational efficiency in large-scaled nonlinear analysis. When this concept is incorporated into finite element analysis (FEA), all the members in the linear zones of a structure can be… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.46, No.2, pp. 125-144, 2015, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2015.046.125

Abstract Postbuckling analysis of functionally graded ceramic-metal plates under temperature field is presented using finite element multi-mode method. The three-node triangular element based on the Mindlin plate theory is employed to account for the transverse shear strains, and the von-Karman nonlinear strain-displacement relation is utilized considering the geometric nonlinearity. The effective material properties are assumed to vary through the thickness direction according to the power law distribution of the volume fraction of constituents. The temperature distribution along the thickness is determined by one dimensional Fourier equations of heat conduction. The buckling mode shape solved from eigen-buckling analysis is adopted as the… More >

Nonlinear Symmetric Free Vibration Analysis of Super Elliptical Isotropic Thin Plates

    Da-Guang Zhang1,*, Hao-Miao Zhou1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.40, No.1, pp. 21-34, 2014, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2014.040.021

Abstract Nonlinear symmetric free vibration analyses are first presented for super elliptical isotropic thin plates with simply supported edge and clamped edge based on classical plate theory. Approximate solutions of super elliptical thin plates are obtained by Ritz method, and the validity can be confirmed by comparison with related researchers’ results. Numerical results confirm that the characteristics of nonlinear vibration behaviors are significantly influenced by different boundary conditions, vibration amplitudes, the power of the super ellipse, as well as ratio of major to minor axis. CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.37, No.2, pp. 77-96, 2013, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2013.037.077

Abstract This paper presents the development of an improved concrete damage model for projectile impact on concrete structural components. The improvement is in terms of reduction of input material parameters for nonlinear transient dynamic impact analysis by employing concrete damage model. The experimental data such as pressure vs volumetric strain, triaxial compression failure and pressure vs stress difference have been used for evaluation of the important parameters of concrete damage model. Various contact algorithms have been outlined briefly to model the interface between the projectile and target. The nonlinear explicit transient dynamic analysis has been carried out by using finite element… More >

A New Optimal Iterative Algorithm for Solving Nonlinear Poisson Problems in Heat Diffusion

    Chih-Wen Chang1,2, Chein-Shan Liu3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.34, No.2, pp. 143-175, 2013, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2013.034.143

Abstract The nonlinear Poisson problems in heat diffusion governed by elliptic type partial differential equations are solved by a modified globally optimal iterative algorithm (MGOIA). The MGOIA is a purely iterative method for searching the solution vector x without using the invert of the Jacobian matrix D. Moreover, we reveal the weighting parameter αc in the best descent vector w = αcE + DTE and derive the convergence rate and find a criterion of the parameter γ. When utilizing αc and γ, we can further accelerate the convergence speed several times. Several numerical experiments are carefully discussed and validated the proposed… More >

    Jan Heczko1, Radek Kottner2, Tomáš Kroupa2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.33, No.3, pp. 257-273, 2013, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2013.033.257

Abstract This work deals with mechanical properties of a rubber material that is used in modern tram wheels as a damping element. Nonlinear static response as well as strain softening and hysteresis are captured in the material model that is selected. Method of identification of the model's parameters is developed. The identification method relies on successive minimizations with respect to different sets of parameters. Tests in tension, compression and simple shear are performed. Parameters of the material model are identified based on the tension and compression data, while the shear data are used for validation only. More >
